My Question or Issue

This has to be the weirdest tech issue I've ever had.

When I say 'hey Google, play music,' Spotify will always default to a queue filled with Christian soft rock. It doesn't make a difference what I was last listening to, or even if I was just listening to something--Spotify will give me Christian soft rock. Specifically, it plays an album version of this

I've never listened to Christian soft rock in my life. While I have no ill will towards anyone who is religious, or enjoys Christian soft rock, I've come to hate 'Break Every Chain' with the intensity of one thousand suns.

When I go into the queue on my phone, the queue simply will not clear. When I go into my queue on the desktop, I right-click 'remove this song,' and it does... and then the song reappears.

It's driving me and my partner nuts. Initially I thought she was pranking me, but she's adamant she isn't.

Two questions:

a) Most importantly, how can I make this stop happening?

b) What is possibly going on? I can sort of understand a queueing issue. But how and why could it be playing this collection of modern faith rock? How? Why?

I tried to attach a video without success.

I'm having the same issue when asking the nest mini to play spotify, but getting stuff like "30 christian christmas songs on the piano" it is let's say very incongruous with my music taste. I'm using a pixel 4 but not had the unable to clear queue thing thou.

Hey there folks,

Thanks for reporting this in the Community.

Could you share a link or URI to the songs/albums which start playing? Also could you tell us if this happens when you open the app and start playing music from the device itself without connecting it to external devices?

We'll be on the lookout for your replies. Don't hesitate to reach out again if any questions pop up.

I am also having this issue. I have set up my Google home on a routine playing music on spotify, and it starts playing christian music instead

Hey @asppokytree,

Thanks for reaching out to us and welcome to the Community 🙂

Can you share with us the URI to the songs which start playing? You can also send us a screenshot of what you're seeing in the queue. We'll investigate this further.

Keep us posted! If you have more questions, we are here for you.

Possible development—I reckon someone may have stolen my password, and was
using my account.

I changed my password, and the issue isn’t happening now. I guess that’s
it?

Hey @nailbunny and @asppokytree,

Thanks for searching for the answer you need here.

It may be possible that the issue you're experiencing is due to unwarranted access to your account, as it seems to have been the case with @treeeeees.

To rule this out as a possible root cause of the problem, it's a good idea to follow the steps in this Support Article. We recommend that you also change the password of services, associated with your Spotify account, such as Facebook or Apple. This step is very effective, but often overlooked.

Hope you find this useful. Keep us posted how you get on.
