My Question or Issue

Hello,

I got serveral playlists including both local mp3 files and spotify songs.

While runnig such playlists, volume of the local mp3 songs are much lower then spotify songs.

So I have to adjust sound level permanently.

As per MP3Gain all my mp3 files are near target normal volume 89,0 db.

Got spotify songs more volume then 89 db in general?

How can I solve that problem?

Thanx in advance

Hey @Pinguin15,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for the question!

After a bit of research, we found that 16-bit audio is capable of recording sound with a dynamic range of up to 96.3 decibels. At Spotify we have the high setting for audio which is equivalent to approximately 160kbit/s. More about audio quality you can read in this help article if you'd like.

When it comes to adjusting the audio normalization, you can also check out the steps here and try setting the app to run at normal quality to test if this would make any difference on your device(s).

Hope this info was helpful and should you have any other questions, we're here 🙂

Hi Ivelina and thank you for your answer.

The quality of my mp3 files is to range from 128 to 320 kbit/s.

But is that even relevant for volume level differences?

Audio normalization setting is "normal" already.

I figured out if playing local mp3 files by using a common mp3-player app, volume is ok.

Whereas spotify plays the same file too quiet - unlike it's own songs.

It seems, that spotifys audio normalization feature won't work properly as to local files.

Bye, Pinguin

Hi @Pinguin15,

Thanks for your reply.

Bear in mind that both the quality and the Mix of the audio files affect the output volume on Spotify. Even though the Audio normalization balances the volume between loud and soft songs, we can't guarantee it will work with Local Files the same way it does with Spotify songs.

Now, we do appreciate you taking the time to let us know your experience. We always aim to improve, so we’ll get this passed on to the right team.

normalization in spotify has never worked properly, both on mobile and desktop versions... it looks more like some kind of low-pass and high-pass filter, with non-variative gain -6dB at all music, and this sounds like as if you are listening to 96 kbps;
as for the local iTunes library, yes, the desktop version plays music from the local library at about 70% quieter than its original volume, and by the way, it does not scrobble it, unlike playing an online stream
