0.9.3.212 on iPad IOS 7.0.4 crashes on 1st open, then works on 2nd open. Why?

0.9.3.212 on iPad IOS 7.0.4 crashes on 1st open, then works on 2nd open. Why?

When I open app for the first time it opens and closes/crashes immediately.  Then when I select it right away again it's fine. Why is this happening. Premium member.

When you say first time, you mean first time after a power cycle?

Yes and no.  I mean I've power cycled the ipad several times and the problem continues.  I can listen to the app and manually close it, and try to open it right away again, it will crash, then open a 2nd time and it's fine.

When you say manually close, are you just backgrounding the app or are you force closing it?

I recorded what I mean:

That is definitely weird!

If you don't mind resyncing your offline playlists, I would suggest a clean reinstallation of the app to see if that makes any difference?

Well… just did clean install and does the same.  Weird bug. But what I did notice that I hadn’t before is (although I think it’s been the case all along); you know when it “crashes”, this time I hit the iPad home button once to see what’s in the background and I see Spotify!?  Then I tap on it and it seems to reconnect = the 3 dots etc. and comes up fine.  So I think what’s happening when I hit it (the home screen icon) the first time is it try’s to connect and immediately minimizes = goes to background, and so when I tap the home screen icon the 2nd time it brings it out from the background and connects properly.  Maybe the bug is with the IOS on my iPad for some reason?

Anyway, it’s not THAT big of a deal/concern.  I can live with it for now.  I don’t feel like resetting the iPad from scratch for this little issue.

Thanks for your quick reply and interest in my problem. Down the road if I find the solution/answer etc. etc. I’ll post an update.

All that said, Spotify is my #1 go to for all day listening when I’m on WiFi.  I like the way it puts the list together for custom stations!  The only other app I use is Slacker for my long driving trips because I can cache custom stations (without having to select individual songs) for hours of play with no internet connection if needed.  If Spotify did that… It would be all I need.

I'm wondering is it just taking a while for the app to close in the background. Do you get the same behaviour if you open Spotify, force close it, wait for 60 seconds then open it again?

Good question, but ya, it can be closed for hours, iPad rebooted (power cycled) or not.  The only thing I haven't tinkered with is the settings in the app I.e.. Settings/music quality, Sync/normal/high... Etc.

LOL, I'm sorry, if you're like me this is going to naw at you.  I too "can't rest" until I find the solution.  I guess if you figure this one out I can start calling you Mr. Holmes!

Hmmm, going to ask some Spotify people behind the scenes see if they have any ideas.

You are totally right, I refuse to be defeated by technology haha.

This is very weird!

There's nothing odd on your account, so this is most likely something device based.

I'm going to pass this up the chain and see if smarter people can make sense of it, because I certainly can't 🙂

We'll let you know if we get any insight.

Thanks!  I don't have time in my schedule this week to "reset" my iPad = Factory reset and reinstall everything to see if that would do it, which I think might, but in a week or so I may be able to try it. If that works I'll be sure to post an update.

I have the same problem with my iPhone. If I stop playing music and leave the app while playing a radio station, when I come back into the app it crashes. Then when I click back into the app it seems fine and takes me to the Discover tab.

UPDATE!

Updated app this morning to 0.9.4.25 problem solved!

I recently bought an iPad air and had the exact same issue until this recent update.  WTG Spotify. You people are on it!

I use it every day!

I also want to say thanks to all who chimed in/sought a solution and the quick responses.  I have dealt with forums/support for another similar app and it was nothing like this. Awesome!
