After iOS 11, earphones activate Apple Music and don’t work on Spotify

After iOS 11, earphones activate Apple Music and don’t work on Spotify

Since I’ve updated to iOS 11, when I double click on the earphone control to skip song, it doesn’t work. Neither the play/stop. If I press once, to play, it opens Apple Music. The volume works fine on spotify.

Also, on Apple Music I can skip, play and pause. It’s only when On Spotify that doesn’t work.

Any one else is having this issue?

Restarted the iPhone and it started working

Yes, exactly same issue!

Same here! Neither can I control Spotify using the Now Playing App on my iWatch. I have already consulted with Apple Support - they also suggested soft reset and Reset All Settings. These worked for a short while but the problem resurfaces within a day. The few quirks that I noticed:

- Play/Pause button on headphones Plays/Pauses Apple Music instead

- Now Playing no longer working on lockscreen on iPhone nor iWatch

- Music Controls in Control Centre no longer work

- When this happens, the headphone icon on top right hand corner no longer appears

I have tried this with Bose Soundsports and BeatsX so I'm sure it's not a problem with the headphones.

I'm getting the same issue with Tidal too, so either it's an iOS11 bug, or current music streaming services need to update their apps to support iOS11!

Restarting resolves the problem, but only temporarily. It'll come back, sadly. At least for me.

Same here, on an iphone 7, neither volume control nor skipping song works on Spotify since iOS 11

Yep - fully regretting upgrading to iOS11

I did a downgrade to 10.3.3

😄

I'm having the same issue. I re paired by beats. This worked for a few days then back to the same issue. Also. I didn't know you could control Spotify with Apple Watch! Which app are you using!

Same here

Apple are saying its a Spotify problem not their problem  I contacted Apple Support

I keep “Now Playing” in my iWatch Dock and control Spotify from there. But every time this bug returns, Now Playing would stop working on iWatch as well!

It’s Apple’s problem too. When the error occurs, the headphone icon on the top right corner disappears (if you’re using a Bluetooth headset). So it’s clearly a problem with iOS

Same here, super frustrating. Going to look up how to downgrade, which is a shame because the rest of iOS 11 is a blast.

Same for me,

I am using the airpods, and restarting only solve the problem some time, the problem comes back in some time...

Completely horrible!

I'm having the same issue - glad it's not just me!

Hope they fix it soon - whether that be Apple of Spotify...

This is driving me insane. In addition to my pause button no longer working (since it casues Apple Music to start playing), I am also having the problem that Apple Music will just randomly start while I'm walking around listening to Spotify, even without touching the pause button. I've also noticed that although the volume controls sometimes work, sometimes they don't. All of this started after I upgraded iOS.

Same for me, also did a complete restore on my iPhone 7 (iOS 11.0.3), but the problem still persists...

I really hope someone finds a fix to this. It just started for me this morning on my way to classes. Super annoying because although I pay for Apple Music and Spotify, I listen to my spotify more because it uses less data with high quality sound when I'm on the go. Will bookmark this forum to check back for solutions

Yup. Similar issues.

Upon my car's bluetooth starting up it defaults to apple music. Super annoying. Also there is no lockscreen controls for spotify.

When I first was on ios 11 I didn't have this issue. Maybe only popped up a couple of days after upgrade to the new ios.

Hopefully this gets solved soon.
