Album cover doesn't show on lock screen

Album cover doesn't show on lock screen

iOS 18.2 (had version 17, but the update did not solve the problem)

My Question or Issue

Album cover of the track currently playing doesn't show on lock screen. Before application version 9.0.0.537 this problem was not observed

Neither using wi-fi, nor the mobile operator’s network, nor turning on VPN helps.

Also does not guarantee the presence of the cover, whether the downloaded track plays.

If you pause the track and start it again, the cover appears.

Hey there @Efremych,

Thanks for reaching out.

Have you tried performing a clean reinstall of the app to see if it makes any difference?

If this doesn't do the trick, could you send over a video or a screen recording where we can take a better look at the issue? You can attach it to your next response or upload it to another platform like YouTube or Google Drive and send a link to it. Make sure to hide any personal or sensitive information, and to give it the relevant permissions if you decide to upload it somewhere else.

We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hi @Novy,

I cleared the cache.
I really don’t want to do clean reinstall:( It never fixes my issues (btw It would be great if the app had a backup functionality).

Here is the link to screen recording

I'm having the exact same issue after upgrading to iPhone 16 Pro. I'm on iOS 18.2 with Spotify version 9.0.2.419.

The album art cover is not showing up on my lock screen. Some would appear but many times, it would just show the blank icon with what looks like a letter d on it. I have tried reinstalling Spotify multiple times along with clearing cache but nothing works.

The video that Efremych embedded is exactly how mine behaves as well. And yes, pausing and resuming the track will then show the album cover.

My Question or Issue

My artwork shows inconsistently and I have tried restarting my phone, reinstalling my app, and re-logging in on my iPhone. Any help is appreciated.

Same with me. No art work in 75% of cases

having this issue, thought its only me. I have a gigabit connection and the artwork isn't showing.

I’m in the same boat as you. Since iOS 18.2 update I’ve noticed this too. Initially via Carplay and thought something was wrong there. Did whole carplay reset too to no avail. The issue is also present in the standalone iOS app whether streaming via data or gigabit WiFi connection.

My Question or Issue

Album art isn’t loading regardless of being connected to WiFi/Data. I have to start the song again for it to load on my phone/CarPlay. Is there a way to resolve this, as it even does it when listening to downloaded songs offline.

Hey there folks,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

@JimmyNacho, @ryanlingg_ , @Chilledoutlistener, we'd like to gather some additional info to continue investigating this behavior. Please send us:

  • The exact Spotify version you're running on the affected device.
  • Does this happen when the playback comes from your mobile devices or does it happen when using Bluetooth or CarPlay as @Chilledoutlistener mentioned?
  • Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update?
  • Some screenshots of exactly what you're seeing on your side.
  • Does this happen over WiFi? 3G/4G? Both? Do you notice any difference if you switch the internet network you're using?

Keep us in the loop!

Hello @WindyWinter,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for reaching out!

We appreciate that you shared that you've already tested both with Wifi and mobile data. It helps us with the investigation.

Did you notice when this started happening and if it was after something specific? On another note, let us know if it only happens when you're using CarPlay or even if you're streaming music from your iPhone alone.

If you've not already done this, a clean reinstall often helps resolve different performance issues so it's worth giving it a test in case anything changes in regards to the album art not loading.

Lastly, if there's no change and if it's possible for you, it'd be great in case you could ask a relative or a friend to see if they can replicate the same behavior via CarPlay on their phone.

Thanks and we'll be on the lookout for your response 🙂

this occurs on both 4G/5G and WiFi

let me know if you need anything else. Thanks for the support.

Yes, this is also happening to me. Even with downloaded songs. No fix yet

Same. This happens with downloaded songs too

I’ve noticed the same issue with CarPlay in iOS 18.2. Pausing the playing the song seems to trigger the album art to make it onto the CarPlay screen.

dear all

same problem here since iOS 18.1 at least. Not resolved with ios18.2. No problem with other streaming platforms.

Mine is doing the same thing really wish it would get fixed.

Making some test today. When pausing then press play again, album cover shows up instantly! Seems to be a refresh problem. Hope an update soon

Same here. Started with IOS 18.2 update.

No difference with what network I’m on. Looks just like a screenshot posted above. When artwork is not showing on Lock Screen, this reflects on Bluetooth devices like Apple Watch. Spotify version 9.0.2.419
