Apple EarPods volume control not working when using Spotify app on iPad

Apple EarPods volume control not working when using Spotify app on iPad

It’s a 10.2, gen 8 iPad. My Apple EarPods are connected through the lightning port. The EarPods work perfectly with any other app on the iPad. But with the Spotify app the volume up and down on the EarPods cable does not work. The pause /play button works. I can only control the volume directly on the iPad when my EarPods are plugged in. The port is clean and free of dust. All of the software is up-to-date. I deleted the Spotify app and uploaded again. Rebooted the iPad. When I did that the volume controls worked for the first use on Spotify app, but did not work the next time. The Spotify icon on the iPad shows a headphone symbol. I googled and cannot find a solution for this problem. It only started in the last month or so after I updated the Spotify app.

Hey @treesplease,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community.

Since this issue started after a recent update, it's possible that some folders from the previous version may have some damaged cache affecting the proper behavior of the app. We'd first recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps in this article. This is often an overlooked step, but it's more thorough than a quick one and can be helpful in getting rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

If the issue persists, would you mind checking on a different device than your iPad to see if it makes any difference? This will give us a better look at the issue.

Lastly, to keep investigating; include in your next response the Spotify version you're currently running.

We'll be on the lookout.

Thank you for the suggestion. I’m going to have to give this some consideration. The idea of re-downloading ALL of my music, playlists, podcasts, etc. would be extremely time consuming. To the point where I might just have to live with this issue. A little frustration in having to reach out and control the volume using the iPad controls would be less frustrating than having to download everything all over again. Thank you once again. If I decide to follow your instructions I will post back here about the results.
