The timer when listening to audiobooks is not working.
when I set the timer to stop at the end of the chapter, it just continues onto the next
I am currently on an iOS device, The app is fully updated, and I have a premium account
Hi @Jerni707,
Thanks for posting this thread in the Community and welcome to the forum!
So we can investigate this behavior further, I'd like to start by asking you if you noticed when this started happening for the first time. Was it after an update for example and did the sleep timer use to work with audiobooks? Additionally, let us know if it works when you're listening to music and podcasts and if it's a specific audiobook that you're experiencing issues with.
On another note, let us know in case you're streaming to an external device (speaker) when this happens.
It's worth performing some troubleshooting if you've not already done so and I recommend a clean reinstall. It's more detailed than a regular one and clears the cache which can cause different issues if it's corrupted.
Lastly, if there's no difference it would be very helpful to log in to your account and test on another mobile device to see if the same behavior persists there.
Appreciate the cooperation and hope to hear from you soon.
Hi - I have got the exact same problem, first started happening two days ago, was fine before then, can't think of any updates I have done between then and now. I am not streaming to a speaker and I am just doing a clean reinstall now... not hopeful that it will fix it though from what I have read on other forums with people having the same issue
Nope that didn't work. Also tried logging out and back in twice, as advised elsewhere and that hasn't worked either.
Can't really test with music or podcasts as I am using the end of chapter sleep timer option and the music and podcasts don't have chapters. I don't have another device to log into to check if it's just on my phone or not.
Hey @bluekangeroo,
Welcome to the Community and thank you for joining the conversation.
To continue investigating this issue, include in your next response the make, model, and OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running.
Also, and if possible; could any of you record a short video where we can take a better look? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).
Lastly, we understand that it could be difficult to test it on another device, but to make sure this is not device-related, would you mind borrowing one from a friend or family member to test it out if possible?
We'll be on the lookout for your response.
Hi Oscar, so I am running version 9.0.26.607 of spotify. I have an iphone 14 running iOS 18.3.2.
I'll try recording a video and trying on another device when my husband gets back tomorrow.
Ok here's a quick screen record video... I skipped to the end of the chapter once I set the sleep timer so you don't have to watch the whole chapter! But normally of course I don't do that! Oh no... I can't add the video as the screen record is a .mov file and you don't seem to support that... sorry! I tried! It wasn't very exciting... just shows me setting the sleep timer for the end of the chapter and then it just carrying merrily on to the next chapter....
I have the same problem. It seems to be a widespread new issue and is frustrating as I’ve almost blown all my audiobook hours by it running overnight a couple of times. How do we ask for it to be fixed and reset?
Hi folks,
Thanks for the reply.
@bluekangeroo as @OscarDC said, if the file cannot be attached, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos. Please send it over to us as this will definitely aid in our investigation.
Keep us posted.
How do we send via google drive? I'm not even going to attempt the YouTube thing as I have no idea... I really don't think the video will help you much, it just shows the timer not working.
Also I don't see much point in trying it on other phones as clearly it is not just me and my iphone!
This issue is also happening for me with podcasts. I set the timer to shut off the audio at the end of the episode and I wake up hours later and it’s still playing. The other timers that use the set amount of minutes work fine, it’s just the “end of..” that is the issue. I’m running version 9.0.26.607 on iOS 18.3.2
Hey folks,
Thanks for the cooperation and the info you've provided!
We've reported this to our tech folks for further investigation and we'll let you know as soon as we hear back from them and have an update to share.
Take care.
That's great. I've lost 75% of my monthly reading time because of this glitch. How are you going to address?
Glad I found this post, I just tried to report the same bug, it's just started happening to me today as well.
That's great, I look forward to hearing when you have found a resolution
I’ve also been having this problem. I only noticed it this month. I have my apps automatically update so I’m unsure if it was after a specific update.
sleep timer works fine if I set a time but won’t stop when I set it to the end of the chapter.
Just another voice to say “Me too”. IOS 18.3.2. iPhone 26 pro max.
This has been an issue for a few weeks now.
makes the audiobook listening limit ridiculous.
Having the same issue. Kept on thinking I forgot to set the timer but i saw each time it had just blown through the end of the chapter but the timer still said it would end at the end of the chapter. Would love a fix for this - just started recently for me

My Question or Issue
The sleep timer never works for audiobooks. No matter which amount of listening time you set it to, the content will continue to play on without stopping.
