BMW Connected Drive compatibility issue with iOS, Spotify 4.2.0, Oct 20

BMW Connected Drive compatibility issue with iOS, Spotify 4.2.0, Oct 20

Spotify's recent update to 4.2.0 on Oct 20 has made compatibility with BMW connected drive very unstable over USB to my iPhone 5s.

I had no issues before the update, now I cannot change the song or browse playlists. When I press next song there is a ~1 minute delay until the song changes. I also notice my iPhone 5s (iOS 9.0.3) gets very hot after being connected for 10 minutes. In addition, album art and song information lag far behind song changes. BTW, my car’s connected drive software is at MX-003.005.004 and TX-003.005.008 (aka. up to date)

So my current situation is: plug in my phone and a random song plays, then another one…etc. - I have no more control from there.

These are all new symptoms since the update 4.2.0.

Please fix this issue! Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks

EDIT:

I performed a soft reset on my iPhone for the first time in years; hold home and sleep button until apple logo appears. So far that seems to have resolved the issue. I will update if the issue comes back again.

One of the recent updates made my Connected Drive app very slow, not sure if it started on 4.1.0 or 4.0.0, but it's definitely doing it on 4.2.0. Playing a playlist through the menu takes forever, loading times are very high and the app will not respond until all thumbnails are loaded. This wasn't a problem before.

Another issue I have is that Spotify is not showing up as a connected app anymore while running a different one. IE, when in Stitcher, I can't launch Spotify from the menu, I have to get the iPod Touch out and launch Spotify directly from there.

More often than not, Spotify updates break BMW Apps functionality. Please fix.

For now I use Google Voice to launch Spotify on my Android phone and it then plays the music through the iPod touch thanks to Spotify Connect.

Thanks for the response!

I agree, the idrive navigation of spotify playlists is very clunky and even unresponsive. To be honest, I don't know if this is fault of BMW software or spotify software (or both).

I am not sure if this will help your problem, but I am interested to see if it does. Try updating your BMW connectedDrive software via USB drive here:

Also try this from my first post maybe... or the Android equivalent. Tell me what happens.

I ended up downgrading the Spotify app in my iPod Touch. I'm already running the latest BMW firmware since the CIC model in my 2011 is no longer being updated.

I downgraded to the last known version and it's as fast as it always is. This proves it's Spotify's fault, so I hope they fix it in the latest versions and that they don't break it again.

I have disabled updates on the iPod touch. The version I'm running does everything I need so I don't want to bother dealing with this again.

I'm experiencing the same issues since my Spotify update a few days ago. Normally I never update apps (for exactly this very reason...things never get better...)  and therefore I used a rather old Spotify version until.

For now the BMW integration is unusable. My car is a 2011 3-series with CIC system and the Apps option.

Problem solved: I canceled Spotify Premium and switched to Deezer. Should have done that earlier, as the BMW/Deezer integration is superior in every aspect.
