Can Spotify still run on my old iPad 2, iOS 9.3.5 ?

Can Spotify still run on my old iPad 2, iOS 9.3.5 ?

Hi All,

Until recently I was still able to run Spotify on my old iPad 2, iOS 9.3.5, but following a reset and restore, even though I can seemingly download the old version from the Apple App Store, it will no longer accept my login details, even though I know they are correct.

Can anyone help?

I am sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I was unable to find the answer.

Thanks!

Hi there @kennedybell,

Thanks for reaching out.

Unfortunately, that iPad can no longer support the Spotify app. Currently, iOS 14 or higher is required for it to work properly. You can always check the up-to-date minimum requirements for all platforms here.

Hope this clears things up.

Dear Joan,

Thanks for your quick reply and for the information.

There are still some apps that run on my old iPad 2, and it was curious that it was still running before the restore, but not afterwards.

If you know of any way, please, to let Spotify management/developers know that the current error message I received was misleading, I'd be grateful, as it just looked like a login error and not a compatibility problem. This resulted in my attempting login several times and then being locked out of my Spotify account and music because of 'suspicious activity'! It was me just trying to reach my music!

Anyway, thanks again. Unfortunately I can't afford to update my Apple devices at present, so I have lost one of my ways to enjoy my music.

Kennedy.

Hi @kennedybell,

Thanks for the reply.

We understand the sentiment and we thank you for the feedback. Usually when a device no longer covers the minimum requirements, the app can still keep working for some time and it can vary how long this is. Usually though, at some point the login and communication with the service will stop working as expected. Eventually logging in won't be possible anymore as the app won't be able to properly authenticate with the servers, even with correct credentials. In other words, your account shouldn't be locked, as it was simply the app that was unable to authenticate.

Nevertheless, if you have issues with your account, let us know, we'd be happy to help out.

Hope this clears things up.

Dear Joan,

I have exactly the same problem. It is very disappointing that Spotify does not longer support devices that are working perfectly fine. I am not expecting any new software or features, but simply to keep things going as the are. Is there any way I can run Spotify with iOS 9.3.6? We live in a world where too much waste is generated every day. It is not sustainable. Why should I throw away a technical device that still works? Please help and support this topic. Spotify has committed to reach zero green house gas emissions by 2030. At the same time it is contributing to create technical waste. That is not consistent.

Thanks and best regards

Florian
