Can share on desktop app with friend but not on iOS app, FRUSTRATED

Can share on desktop app with friend but not on iOS app, FRUSTRATED

I've seen similar posts here after doing a search, but have found no solution.

I have my spotify connected to my facebook (but have disconnected and reconnected it while attempting to triage this).  My girlfriend does not have a facebook account and only has a spotify account.  I'm following her and she's following me.  On the desktop client, I'm able to send her songs.

On the iOS app (both iPhone and iPad), when I go to share and type in her account name, she does not come up.  If I do a search for spotify:user:heraccount, it shows me her account name and pictureless icon but nothing else as to whether or not we're following one another or allowing me to share anything with her.

I've tried everything to get this to work and have googled extensively for any solutions and have found none.  I've been a spotify user for quite some time (and I'm a premium user, for that matter) and I remember being able to share with people who weren't on facebook.  I know some changes have gone underway, has this affected sharing?  Even if I was sharing with a friend who has a facebook, I wouldn't want the song going to their facebook account or for what they send me to go to mine.  I want to work exclusively through spotify and the only reason I even connected to facebook was so I wouldn't be a pictureless picture.

Is there no solution to sharing on the iOS devices?

I have three friends on Spotify.  I can follow all three of them on my desktop Spotify app but one of them is missing on my iOS app and I have no idea how to follow him so he shows up in the mobile iOS version of Spotify.

I don't have FACEBOOK but I can share songs with him without a problem on the desktop version but I don't see him as a friend on my iOS app and there doesn't seem to be a means for me to add him so that he show up there as well along side my other two friends.

Is your friend on facebook and are the other two?  Thought it was a facebook issue, but maybe it's not.

Yes, my friend is on FB as are my other two friends but obviously I didn't connect to any of them via FB because I don't have a FB account.

Don't know if that adds more clarity to the situation.

It does, a little!  Seems like it might just be a spotify issue and not dependent on facebook at all.  Doesn't seem like there's a solution though.

Yeah, I agree. I'm at a loss because I really don't understand why this one person in particular is not listed as a friend on the iOS Spotify app, given the other two friends are also FB users.

I can search for him on my iPhone using "spotify:user:username" in the search field and I can find him and his publicly available playlists which I can follow individually but it still will not add him as an individual to my list of friends on iOS

Just having a play around with this, I can not find a way to share with non-Facebook friends from the iOS application which I agree is a bit of a pain! I think it is most likely to due to the lack of being able to view profiles and other user information in the app.

Since this is more of a missing feature than a bug (since I don't think the functionality is intended to be there), best place to suggest this as a future feature is to make a topic over on the ideas exchange (but be sure to search first).

As a temporary work around, copying the track link and then sending it via another communication channel is all I can suggest.

The thing is the one friend who is not showing up on my iOS Spotify app is a FB  user and he can share songs with me by delivering them to my inbox but I can't do the same because he is not listed as a friend on my mobile app. Interestingly enough I can share songs with the other two friends who do show up on my iOS Spotify app even though they are FB users and I am not. In fact all three friends are FB users and I am not.  So I can successfully see two of them on iOS app but not the third for no apparent reason even though I have them showing as friends in my desktop Spotify app. Makes no sense.

I just bought a friend Spotify Premium so I can share music with him (I have a premium account as well). And now we are having this same issue. He didn't want to connect his Spotify account with Facebook but now he is unable to share music with me. When he clicks on "Share" I do not appear under Spotify People even though I am one of his followers and he is mine. We tried searching for me with (spotify:user:USERNAME) as the boards suggested and that fails to locate me.

We are very disappointed as this was the primary reason I bought him Premium. Will this be addressed by Spotify at some point?

This has been escalated as an issue for sometime, but it still remains unclear if this is going to be corrected or not.

Currently its not possible to share with non-Facebook followers in any of the mobile applications as far as I am aware.

Not the answer I was hoping for but thank you for the information, Peter.

Sharing hasn't worked for me for quite some time.  Seems like it has to due with facebook integration.  This is critical part of the app to me, but it still hasn't been addressed.  Tried out Beats iOS app and it lacks the sharing functionality as well.  Not sure why this is such a tough thing to correct.

Maybe they can remove the facebook integration if that is the root cause.

I would like to see this issue addressed as well. I thought it was a bug at first, but as I read more about it, it seems more like a missing feature.

On iOS app, when I go to Share > Spotify People, there are no users on the list. None of my friends, followers, followees, etc. I cannot search for anyone, not even with "spotify:user:[username]".

On desktop, no such problems. I can share with all my friends/followers.

Please fix!! Thanks!

...still no progress untill today?
many updates followed in the passed time.

really annoying it still hasn't been fixed! 😞

You can now share your playlists/songs with specific friends, but not a mass spotify broadcast to share your content with all of your friends like eg facebook yet.

Jeremy-- I have only ever wanted to share with one specific friend since I originally posted here. As of the writing of this comment, that is still not possible in the iOS app. My girlfriend does not link her spotify account with Facebook as she does not have one. I can send her songs and playlists via the desktop app, but not the iOS app. When I go to share and type in her spotify username, it says no results found.

@nickhasspotify as an alternative, Spotify just added Whatsapp support last week, perhaps that is a workaround? If she doesn't have whatsapp, than you would have to use Email or SMS. FB than. (omg what am I thinking)

My workaround thus far has been to just send stuff from my mac, but I guess the point of this post in my mind is that one should be able to do on the mobile app what one is able to do on the desktop app without using a third party application or account-- especially considering that both of us pay to be spotify premium members. It's been so long that this hasn't worked that I don't have much hope, so it's a definite area of frustration for me with spotify.

That said, thank you for the whatsapp suggestion, she's a lot more likely to use that app than create a facebook account.

Ha I just saw your edit. I already do send links in texts sometimes but we love that we have a history of our relationship through music in our spotify inboxes so it's all still a bit of a bummer!

@nickhasspotify why not you and her have a collaborative playlist? like the one in my forum signature below (feel free to add a song btw haha)
