Cannot Sync Local Files to iPhone 5

Cannot Sync Local Files to iPhone 5

I have been combing this thread for answers but it seems none of the problems are exactly the same as mine and none of the answers help me.

I have had a Spotify Premium account for quite some time now.  When I first got Spotify, my iTunes songs synced seamlessly into my Spotify playlist and mobile playlists.  I now again have the desire to sync local files to my mobile and am unable to.  Unlike many other users, I AM able to see my device listed when Spotify is open on my Mac.  All playlists that I want on my mobile are checked for "Offline Availability."  All of my starred songs are syncing but my local files which are starred just have a star next to them and are not included in the sync.  I have tried syncing wirelessly and wired. Also, the status of the sync says it is syncing my songs (not including local files) but they are not synced in my mobile app even after a restart of the app.  Please help!

I bought the a new album, uploaded it to my computer, and would now like to have access to it via Spotify as I no longer use iTunes.

I will cancel my Premium subscription if this continues so I'm hoping there's an easy fix.  I am using an iPhone 5 with the latest iOS and a Macbook also with the latest OS.  Both Spotify apps are up-to-date on the laptop and my phone.

I have a similar problem to this user. I want to Sync the "Local Files" playlist on my iOS device to my Mac. On the Mac the "Local Files" points to my dropbox folder and shows 44 tracks in the "collection" area of the left-side-tab. The same folder on my iOS device shows 0 files. I also have iPhone 5 running iOS6 with both app and desktop software up to date (as of 13/3/13). Has anyone encountered this problem and found a fix? Do I need to flick a switch to make the "Local Files" folder from my desktop app "available offline?" If so, I can't see the switch in the desktop app. It seems to only relate to folders in the "playlist" section, not those in the "collection" section of the left-side-tabs (where "Local Files" is located). I am also a premium subscriber.

These are the debugging steps I have tried:

  • I have uninstall/reinstall of both apps, observed no change.
  • I have redirected the "Local Files" back to my hard-drive (from dropbox), observed no change.

Hey guys, I think I found a workaround. On your desktop (Mac or Windows) create a new playlist. Drag all your local files to this new playlist and make it available offline. After that I was finally able to sync my local files to my iPhone 5.

I had some really odd behavior with this feature. I would choose to have the "Local Files" playlist synced to my phone on the desktop client, but it would never sync. On my mobile device the playlist "Available Offline" slider would show as "OFF". If I un-checked the Local Files playlist for syncing on my desktop the slider on the phone would switch to "ON". Very bizarre, the desktop client and my phone would always be set to the opposite of each other. This is happening for both my Windows PC and Macbook Air laptop. I uninstalled all apps, deleted caches, and even deleted my iCloud backup for my phone to make sure some kind of corruption didn't carry through when I re-installed the Spotify app.

Hopefully they will have a fix for this, at least the workaround isn't too much of a hassle.

Sorry but can you please help me save a playlist to my desktop - or clarify what you mean by that. I'm trying to sync my local files (3000+)through spotify to my iphone 5, to no avail. There's plenty of room. How do I save a playlist of my music library outside of itunes? Is that what you mean? Thank you so much for your help (in advance)!

I created the playlist in Spotify itself and copied the songs from "Local FIles" to my new playlist (which I just called "Local"). Sorry for not specifying, I am not using iTunes and and I didn't consider that some people do!
