My Question or Issue

When I set up a Spotify Jam, crossfade doesn’t work. It just suddenly skips to the next song where it usually starts to crossfade.

Hi there @oskarbull,

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please provide us the following:

  • Is this on all devices or only on specific one(s) such as the aforementioned iPhone?
  • When did this start happening? Did it ever work after Jam was released?
  • Does it happen when playing from one device or during remote Jams?
  • What crossfade settings do the other users have?

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Keep us posted.

Is this on all devices or only on specific one(s) such as the
aforementioned iPhone?
- Both devices. But the crossfade works on the device starting the Jam,
but not the device joining the Jam. I've verified this by switching host
devices.

When did this start happening?
- I tried it for the first time over a year ago. Same problem then. Then
called Spotify Group sessions or something.

Did it ever work after Jam was released?
- No.

Does it happen when playing from one device or during remote Jams?
- Remote Jams only, so playing the same music on both devices.

What crossfade settings do the other users have?
- Same. 12 seconds on both devices.

Hey @oskarbull

Thanks for getting back to us.

Could you let us know if the other user's settings are greyed-out while being in the jam session or if they're able to modify them? Also, sending us some screenshots and a screen recording would come in handy. You can attach them to your next response by using the Insert Video/Image option in the post editor. You can also upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it). Make sure not to send any private info.

We'll be on the lookout.

The settings are not grayed out on the “other device” while in a Jam session as you can see in the video. Not grayed out on the original device either.

Hey @oskarbull,

Thanks for sharing the video.

We've forwarded this to the relevant team here at Spotify, however, we can't confirm when it will be addressed. In the meantime, please make sure to keep your app up to date.

Take care,

Any news on that subject? I think I'm having the same issue

Hey @SimonSays1992

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Could you let us know if you experience this exactly during jam sessions or do you find this issue while playing music normally? Could you share with us the make and model of the device you`re using and their operating versions. We`ll be happy to look into this further.

Waiting to hear back,

Hey,

Yeah. I later on found a similar post. The problem occurs while in Jam mode. The crossfade works normally on host device, but all the participans devices jump instantly to the next song when the host device starts fading out. So the result is even more hectic than not using crossfade at all. I was using crossfade 11 sec on all devices at the time.

Best wishes,

Siim Suurkask

Hey @SimonSays1992,

Could you let us know if you're playing Jam via Connect devices?
The function is not integrated with Connect for the time being and you may encounter errors such as the one you're describing.

What I'd like us to try as a workaround though - try setting the crossfade settings of all participants to the same time.
If all goes well the issue will disappear after this 🙂

Keep us posted on how things go!
