Data usage

Data usage

I'm using spotify every day but this never happend to me before. I have all my song downloaded offline. I was listening to my music and everythink was fine until I checked my data usage. Spotify used 400mb data. How is it possible? I have my data turned on because I want have the pictures of songs when I am listening but I don't think that those pictures used all my data.

Hey there!! Sounds like it's the offline files, not the pictures, using up your data. Syncing songs offline can only be done as your phone has storage. In an extreme case, you could sync thousands of songs until you literally don't have any room left on your phone. Each song only takes up a little space, but in culmination, offline songs could potentially cost a good chunk of storage. I hope this helps!!

What's a Spotify Rock Star, and how do I become one?

Check out my backstage interview

The OP is referring to cellular data usage, not local storage.

I have free 30,2 GB on my phone. Normaly I use spotify when I am at subway and there is no signal but my downloaded songs (all of them) can be playable.

What do you mean OP?

Check that you have spotify's cellular usage turned off in Settings>Cellular then scroll down to Spotify. If its green just tap that green button to make it grey and it should work how you want it to!

Yeah I know, but I would like to have the picture of the song on my lock screen. If I turn it off there is no picture. Is there any way to download picture of the song??

Have you turned your phone off and on ? I did that before and it re-downloaded the album covers. And make sure you're on wifi!

I never turn off my phone 😄

Try turning off your phone and turning it back on.

All my songs are still downloaded

I would just try a power cycle i.e turn it off and back on.

I am seeing a similar issue.

Spotify has eaten 2GB of cellular data today.  This morning I reinstalled Spotify and downloaded my albums again using public WIFI.  I had turned off "download over WIFI" and listed to downloaded music.  So I would expect my usage to be very small.  I noticed because my phone was getting hot in my pocket and the data transfer icon was on.  I did a Force Stop" on Spotify and my data transfer icon turned off.  The Data Usage screen on Android shows the 2.07GB of cellular usage since the reinstall and 6.14GB for "removed apps", i.e. the previous install.

Last week Spotify ate through 3GB on the day I was alerted about a "new version of spotify".  I renewed my mobile contract to get more data and so also renewed my Spotify contract.  I then installed the new version of Spotify.  I have turned the phone off several times since.  I was hoping this would fixed my issue.

I reinstalled today because Spotify because it was complaining about "data storage full".  It is storing to SD card and I have more than 40GB free on the card.

I listen to Spotify every day.  I have had Spotify on this phone for more than 2 years.  This is the first time my monthly cellular data usage has exceeded 5GB - which was my old alarm level.

Version: 5.1.0.849

Android Version: 5.0

I have been having the exact same issue. I started this thread a few days ago (see link below), thinking I was the only one experiencing the issue. Looks like more people are affected. Spotify- can you comment on whether you're aware this is a problem?

This bug should have been fixed now.

Are you still having trouble with excessive mobile data usage?
