Distorting tracks, only in the last few months.

Hi there guys

I have noticed that on a lot of tracks that I listen to now, the tracks are distorting. They never used to.. oddly. The worst one I've heard is "Synchronicities" on the Police's Certified album, when the bass comes in there is a very noticeable distortion on many devices, but not when I listen to it on the CD. Any ideas what this could be? I love the spotify service but am starting to lose faith when I've spent good money on Hi-Fi systems and the sound coming out is in this condition.
