Do I really have to download all of my music library onto my phone through the internet???

Do I really have to download all of my music library onto my phone through the internet???

I've been trying to find a  way to sync my local music library onto my phone without using the internet. I have about 8,000 songs and I don't want to download all of these (it'll take forever on my internet) and also want to avoid filling up my spotify download limit with songs I alreay own. I've been redirected multiple times to https://support.spotify.com/us/using_spotify/playlists/listen-to-local-files/ as a solution, but this is not very helpful, since I don't want to use the internet to add these files to my phone. I've made a playlist and I see where I can click download, but is there a better way to get a lot of local music to register on my phone's spotify account?

Hello there and welcome to the Spotify Community!

If you want to download songs without using your internet, you could try network internet or Mobile Data. Please head to Settings and enable download with mobile network also known as "Download using cellular".

Have a nice day!

In downloading MY OWN MUSIC i have run into the 3,333 download limit and cannot access my own library, let alone the new music from spotify. If this problem can't be resolved, I think I'll switch over to apple music at the end of the month.

I just want to have my own music on my spotify account so I can access it when I'm offline. I can't find a good way to do this though. The suggestions by spotify to add it to a playlist on my computer and download that playlist offline run me into the download limit before the majority of my music can be transferred into spotify.

Hello:

Just to be sure I am getting all the correct information, are you having issues with syncing local music files using the Spotify apps, or are you running into song count limits with regards to Listen Offline of Spotify music service content?

https://support.spotify.com/us/using_spotify/playlists/listen-offline/

Local music files Spotify users can sync as many songs as they wish to from their own machines ---> devices without limits, the only limits currently are for the music content on the Spotify service for offline listening.

I'm having trouble getting my local files onto the spotify app for my Iphone. The trouble is that when I try to make my local files available offline (they're in a playlist of their own that I created on my desktop) they trigger the download limit and so I get nowhere near being able to download all my music.

The title of this chain might be a little misleading, because the trouble started before I knew that the download limit would be a problem –– before, I just wanted to be able to plug my phone into my computer and manage my music like I used to on itunes.

Thanks

Hello!

If you want to download desktop local files to your iPhone please do the following:

  1. While on the same WiFi, open Spotify on both devices.
  2. Start playing the local files on your desktop and then switch it your iPhone, it should start playing the file without issue. As it proceeds to stream, it should be downloading as well (As long as the playlist is available for offline use).

If it didn't work, try this one which is slightly similar:

  1. While on the same WiFi, open Spotify on both devices.
  2. Select your iPhone as streaming device.
  3. Try tapping your iPhone's screen on the music you want to download.
  4. If it doesn't start playing, use your desktop as control and double click the song.

This is something I used to do back when there were some songs not available... It should still work, if not then maybe Spotify changed the rules.

Hope it works!

@kyorugi I guess the issue is more that local files just aren't showing up in my local files playlist on my phone, while my computer has 10,000+ songs in it's playlist. While I appreciate the advice about streaming and switching to my phone, it is not that the downloading is the problem – I can download my own songs from a playlist I made, it just counts toward my download limit (after a day and a half of downloading, spotify alerted me that my limit was reached, and I wouldn't be able to download anything new until I got rid of some of what I had).

I want to be able to navigate my personal music library as there are many songs that don't exist on spotify that I have had for a while now, and also, because I often have no service and can't stream music.

Why would it be that the local files playlist is so different on my phone? On my computer it has everything I want, but my phone has only a handful of songs that I had added to other playlists manually (songs that I assume count against my download limit, even though they are hard copy mp3s on my computer and Iphone).
