Download of offline songs stops after a while

Ok so i read a whole lot on the forus before posting. 

I got two new phones, an android and in iphone 7. 

I always keep the songs in my library (liked / starred) on the device for offline play (its about 550 songs). And ive never had a problem with that on my android or my old ipad. 

However with my iphone 7, when i make my songs available offline, it starts downloading just fine, but when i leave the phone, aftre some time it seems to stop. If i come back , unlock the phone and the apps open agains (its the one left in focus so the one that appears at unlock) it starts downloading again. 

If i keep coming back and doing that every few minutes, it keeps the download going, but i leave the phone for an extended time, its stops downloading. It also stops downloading if i start using aother app, like a game for an extended time. 

My android device just synced fuly online after i switched on the button and left it on a charger overnight. 

Its seeming like the OS kind of stops the app from being active or working or using data after a while .... or so i think. 

Any ideas? I dont want to keep sitting and clicking to active for hours to do this. 

Please note I have PLENTY of space and its not 3333 songs. (still have over 18GB available on the phone as I write this).

have you tried turning your phone off and then restart it again? sometimes it´s that simple.
