Earbud gesture bug while changing playback speed

My Question or Issue

My earbuds have gesture control. A single tap pauses and plays the current title. When I change the playback speed to any other than 1x this gesture doesnt work anymore. Since the problem only occurse in the Spotify app and not in other apps like Apple Music or Podcast-App I think this could be an app bug. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks for reaching out.

We've tested this on our end using both iOS and Android devices, however we weren't able to reproduce the issue. Can you please try reinstalling the app and re-pairing the earbuds to see if that makes a difference?

Also, please share the model of the earbuds and if possible, try with a different one.

So I got the JBL Live Pro 2 TWS.

I installed the Spotify app on a fresh iPhone 13 with iOS 16.1.2. Spotify Version was 8.7.94.551 again. Same behavior. Gesture works fine while playing podcasts on 1x. When I change it the gesture doesn’t work anymore for pauses.

The i installed everything on an android phone. Redmi Note 8 Pro. Android Version 9 PPR1.180610.011 (MIUI Global 11.0.5). Spotify Version 8.7.92.521. Everything works like charm. No problems with different playback speeds.

Next device was an iPad Air (MD785FD/A) with iOS 12.5.5. Spotify Version 8.7.4.1352. Same problems with the gestures on higher playback speed.

I tested crosstested Apple Podcast on every iOS Device above and didn’t have any problem with the gestures on higher playback speed.

as a reference I tested everything with my AirPods 1st gen and moved the double tap gesture to play/pause and had no issues at all across all device, apps and playback speeds.

it’s hard to get my head around that. On one hand it seems to be hardware specific on the other hand it only occurs on Spotify.

We haven't seen any similar posts recently about this and we couldn't replicate it on our end. Also, the the fact that the issue is limited only to your earbuds, this is most likely a device-related occurrence.

In this case, it's worth reaching out to your earbuds' manufacturer for further assistance.
