Error when skipping tracks in car

Hello, I'm having an issue continually in my car… phone plugged in via USB, honda civic 2009.

When I press previous track button on steering wheel, Spotify goes to next track. When I press next track, Spotify goes to next track. There is no issue with the button. In the infotainment, the screen shows that it is trying to go to previous track. When I use Apple Music or SoundCloud, previous track works fine. It's only when I use Spotify. I also noticed this issue in a 2001 BMW and a 2011 Ford fusion.

it's a real safety hazard because it forces me to pick up my phone to go to previous track while driving. This is unsafe but I have a new alternative if I want to go to previous track.

My car doesn't have Bluetooth and I don't want to buy a Thing to fix the problem when I have a steering wheel button that should do the job just fine.

any help would be deeply appreciated, this isn't a big deal but it's something that's been bothering me for a long, long time. I have tried it on multiple different Spotify versions in multiple different IOS versions (2019-2022).
