This is possible, yes. Uninstall the current client you have installed and download the installer from the Spotify website.

It would be a kind of silly solution, anyway, wouldn't it? It should get easier to navigate the social aspects of spotify with newer versions, not the other way around. Anyway, if anyone comes accross v 8.5 or older, i'll be happy to try it!

The current installers on the Spotify website such as this one (windows) are all still for v0.8.5, since v0.8.8 has not yet been rolled out to everyone yet (it auto-updates from 0.8.5).

I'm not sure this will give you the functionality you are looking for though. You are still going to need to go through each playlist manually to select if it is public or not I think (but hey it might be worth a shot!).

Be sure if you don't want any new playlists you make to be public by default to untick the appropriate option under Edit > Preferences > Profile > Playlists inside the desktop client.

Hi Blackjedi45 - You can only view your profile via the desktop app.

Just click on your username in the top righthand corner. Then select 'Profile' from the dropdown menu.

Hi Meredith,

selecting 'Profile' in the desktop app doesn't give you an overview of you public profile (e.g. published playlists). How do we get there?

Thanks,

Papier

Hey! Welcome to the community 🙂

I don't think there is anyway to view your profile as it would appear to the public without using someone else's account to check. Anything that is set as Private/Hidden/Secret on your profile will not be displayed on your public profile.

Hi Hammeh,

Thanks for the quick reply!

There used to be a way to view your public profile on your own account some upgrades ago.

Problem is this: I have more than say 500 playlists. I only make want to share/make public those playlists I recommend to my friends. This changes over time, and I don't remember which playlists I published a few months ago. Do I have to check every individual playlist to see whether it is public or not? Or is there a shortcut?

In the latest client v0.8.8 (which I am using) I do not know of a way you can alter the privacy of playlists other than 1 at a time.

Are you using v0.8.5 or v0.8.8 (Help > About)?

I think if I remember correctly in v0.8.5 you could press an edit button on your playlist and it would bring up a list of all of your playlists and whether or not they are published (but again, it could have been longer ago!).

Hurray, this worked. I reinstalled and downgraded to v8.5, where you still can view your public profile, and alter it accordingly.

Still, I hope spotify solves this issue in future updates. After all, what's the point of publishing and sharing, if you can't properly manage or even see you public playlists?

Thanks Peter

You can still view your playlist privacy settings from your profile in the latest release, the setting is below each playlist as shown on your profile (You can set Public/Secret for each playlist), but if you have a massive number of playlists then that would involve a lot of scrolling to change them all!

Glad it is now working for you.

Yeah - I would consider this a prety glaring step in the wrong direction.

Given they want people, presumable, to have as many playlists as they want, making you check every playlist you have to see what's public on your profile to others is ridiculous and unmanageably unusable.

There should be (1) a way to view your profile as it actually appears to others and (2) this is what should be what comes up when you click on your "Profile" - as setting playlists to public (appearing on the profile) can most easily be done from each playlist itself (accessed on the left like normal).

The change from prior versions where THIS was the approach didn't make sense and needs to be fixed.  Until it is, many users ability to easily share music on their profile in the way they want will remain virtually impossible.

That's my "humble" opinion anyway ; )

I find it bewildering that I still cannot view my profile as others see it without installing to an earlier version. Was there a reason for this and how come its still not been rectified?
