My Question or Issue

This is not technically an iOS issue, but for some reason Spotify doesn't find it prudent to create a Google Home/Amazon Alexa/Sonos section despite the significant popularity in home audio streaming. However, I am an iPhone user and thus I control my music through iOS applications.

For a while now, I have noticed a consistent issue where Spotify will randomly stop playing while being cast to one of my Google Home devices. It does not matter which device it is, as the issue affects all of my devices equally (two Nest Minis, two Nest Audios, one Chromecast Audio, and a Chromecast-enabled TCL soundbar). I am currently using an Orbi mesh WiFi network. All software is up-to-date across all devices. My network speed is 1 Gbps.

It is important to note that I do not experience any streaming issues on any other music platforms, and I do not experience any connectivity issues among the 30+ devices currently on my network. Therefore, before some clever engineer tries to say my internet is at fault, please don't; the ONLY issue I have is with Spotify and ONLY when casting to Google devices.

One may also say to talk to Google; I have tried. As anyone who has dealt with Google's Home support will know, they are practically nonexistent and are very difficult to work with. Nothing is ever Google's fault. So, at the least, it would be nice to hear from someone who may know if there is indeed an ongoing issue with Spotify in relation to casting, mesh networks, or any other related issue that could present these same symptoms. So far I have been stumped and can not figure out why my music will decide to randomly stop in the middle of a song and not resume. Even if there was an interruption in service, it would be logical for the streaming to resume when the connection is restored.

Hey @cwilli40,

Sorry to see this has happened to you. There are a few thing we can try to solve this.
Let's begin by unlinking your Spotify account from your Google Home app and then linking it again to see if that makes a difference.
Other users have reported that resetting the speaker twice had helped them out, so we can try this out as well.
Let us know how it goes 🙂
We'll be on the lookout for your response.
