High battery drain using Spotify Connect

High battery drain using Spotify Connect

Using Spotify Connect with my Yamaha receiver is draining iPhone battery significantly higher than usual. Connect used to drain power a lot less than playing directly from the phone (ie with headphones or something). However this is no longer the case. I have Spotify playing on the stereo most of the day and I now have to keep my phone plugged in to power which is not ideal.

Something has changed since a recent update. Please resolve 🙂

Hi there!

I know it sounds simple, but it's often overlooked. Could you try restarting your device? If that doesn't help, try a quick clean reinstall of the app. Just follow these steps.

I'd also suggest updating to iOS 13.2 and install any other pending updates 🙂

If you're still having trouble, could you let me know the exact version of Spotify and the exact version of the operating system you're running?

I'll see what I can suggest next!

Hey, thanks for the reply but that hasn’t worked. Just last night went to bed with phone at about 75% and woke up with flat battery. That should only happen if the phone is actually being used - which it shouldn’t be with the Spotify Connect feature. Funnily enough, the music was still playing on the Yamaha system, so that part still works. It’s just Spotify as a background task on the phone.
Current info:

iPhone 8 with iOS 13.2.2

Spotify 8.5.31.989

Attached screenshot of battery drain over night. Spotify is the primary battery user.

Another interesting point, I used Spotify over night to play rain sounds to help me sleep. It’s a single track I play on loop and I have it downloaded - so it shouldn’t even be using the Internet.

Any more updates on this? this is still happening for me.

Hey @heyroger

Could you possibly see what activity is being used?

This is also happening to me, on an iPhone 12 Pro running iOS 16.5.1. Im not even using spotify on my phone as the initiator, but just listening to spotify on my computer (when spotify is closed on my phone) has started to suddenly drastically drain my battery. I even just got the phone battery replaced and still see it happening. I see 3 hours of background use for spotify and 9 minutes of on screen use (the site wont let me attach my screenshot..) Please help resolve!
