I cannot type on my keyboard, random letters make the tracks skip/go back.

I cannot type on my keyboard, random letters make the tracks skip/go back.

I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting my magic keyboard, signing off and back in, uninstalling Spotify, and using it on a web browser - nothing works. I mostly use it on my computer while I'm working, which is getting extremely frustrating.

Hi there @formmigga! Welcome to the Community! 🙂

This sounds like an OS issue. Did you check your keyboard layout settings to see if your local language is set correctly?

If so, did you try restarting your device to see whether things work as expected?

I'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hi, thanks for the reply!

Yes, I've tried all that. Including shutting down and restarting my iMac, as I know some changes only take effect when you completely power down and turn the machine back on.

The keyboard layout is set to my original keyboard, which is my first language, and it hasn't changed from the previous settings.

I cannot seem to pinpoint the issue.

Hey @formmigga! Thanks for getting back to me!

Did you try using your keyboard on other software in your iMac? If so, do you see the same issue happening or just when you use it with Spotify App?

Morning 🙂

Yeah, I work on my computer, so I used it all the time. It's only happening with Spotify (both the app and using the browser).

Hi again @formmigga!

Can you provide us with a few examples of the actions you can take while the app is not in focus?

Also, can you type one of the key combinations available here while the Spotify App is open, and check if the shortcuts from the list actually work or if the actions are triggered by some other keys?

Mateus.

Hi MateusM,

Thanks for still trying. ':D

But I gave up and ended up reinstalling Ventura. Turns out, it worked - thankfully.

Many thanks for all your help!

And now it doesn't work, again. Ahahaha. Out of nowhere...

Hey @formmigga,

Thanks for reaching out once more.

In this case, as mentioned by @MateusM previously, would you mind sending a few examples of the actions you can take while the app is not in focus? This way, we can try to replicate this on our side.

On another note, and as mentioned before as well, would you mind checking if the Spotify shortcuts work as they should or if the commands are triggered by another type of combination?

Lastly, can you send us a video recording of what you are seeing on your side? You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google drive and make it public, so we can visualize it.

Keep us in the loop!

Hey everyone,

Thanks for all your help.

Turns out, it seems to be a hardware issue. I bought another keyboard to run some tests, and didn't have any more problems. I'll activate my Apple warranty as I just bought this iMac M1.

Have a lovely end of your week.

I'm curious as I'm having this same issue with a relativly new M1 chip apple imac.
delete key restarts songs, so does w key. What did you do in terms of fixing the issue?

I have tried restarting spotify, changing password, reinstalling etc. Nothing works.

Hi @kokomo_! (Sorry, can't seem to figure out how to tag you.)
It was a hardware issue. I went to the Apple Store and it turns out my magic keyboard was broken from the day I bought it. They exchanged it for a new one and I haven't gotten another similar issue ever since.

Hopefully, it's the exact same case for you — it was way easier than trying to figure out a software malfunction.
