Do you have a Premium Subsciption? You're only able to listen to music through the Spotify app on your iPhone if you have a Premium Subscription tied to your account. 🙂
Keep them both set to online mode when you are attempting to sync them. It should work that way.
Try this --
Have your Spotify desktop app open on your computer with your playlist(s) open. Once that's open, open up the app on your iPhone with your playlist open as well.
With both of them open, add a song to a playlist on your desktop app and it should automatically sync. If that doesn't work - let me know.
Both devices need to be set to online mode in order to sync. Since it also says 'pending' I recommend restarting your computer and your phone as well before trying again.
