Local Files

Local Files

I'm using premium in the US on my new iPhone SE. I had downloaded several local files to my old devices but when I got a new phone the files didn't work anymore. I tried to trouble shoot using the FAQs, followed each suggested step, but it didn't work on my phone. The local files work on my desktop app in each playlist. I've downloaded those playlists on my phone, having confirmed the same wifi and updated both apps. I'm prompted with the "sync song to this phone". I follow the 4 steps but that doesn't work.

Hi @1243259660,

Thanks for posting in the Spotify Community!

If you’ve tried all the suggestions listed in the solution to this thread and are still having issues with playing local files on your mobile device, I would recommend trying to sync your local files using a different network, such as by starting a hotspot on your mobile device and connecting your computer to the hotspot via wifi.

Let us know how it goes, as well as if you have any other questions.

Have a good day!

Hi I just tried that and it didn't work. Is there anything else that we can try?

Hi @1243259660,

Thanks for keeping us updated!

Another step that you can try is changing the local files source on your computer.

To do this, simply create a new folder in a different directory on your computer and move the local files to this folder. Then, delete the old folder used for the local files. Now you can try importing the files to your mobile device again.

All of my local files are coming from my laptop downloads folder.  How do I select another folder? It doesn't seem like I have a choice.

Hi @1243259660,

Thanks for asking about this!

You can create a new folder on your laptop somewhere besides Downloads by navigating to wherever you’d like to move your music files to (such as your home directory, Documents, or Desktop), and then selecting File -> New Folder (or by right-clicking there and selecting “New Folder” from the pop-up menu). A new folder should appear in the location that you chose, which you can assign a name that you like.

Next, you can select the music files from Downloads, and then drag and drop them into the new folder that you just created. If your music files were contained within a folder within Downloads, you can then delete this now empty folder.

You can then open your Spotify desktop app and go to Preferences -> Local Files -> ADD A SOURCE, and then choose the newly created folder containing your music files in order to add these to your Spotify local files on your desktop app. Then you can try syncing the local files to your mobile device again to see if this makes a difference.

Let us know if this works for you, as well as if you have any other questions!
