Local files not syncing to iPhone 4S, phone not appearing under "devices."

Solved!

Local files not syncing to iPhone 4S, phone not appearing under "devices."

I've read through a lot of similar posts, but still do not have a solution. I have a premium account, am connected to the same Wifi network on my desktop and phone, etc. etc. I do not find it acceptable that Spotify moderators simply state the obvious and ask we delete and reinstall the apps, which only clears my music library that I have to rebuild and does not fix the problem.

When I open my Spotify app on my phone I receive a notification that states "There was an error communicating with Spotify. Some tracks couldn't be made available offline. Spotify will try again later."

Your prompt help is greatly appreciated, as this is making me question my continued use of Spotify. Support issues need to be taken more seriously.

All,

After trying many, many things on my end to correct this....I think I've resolved the issue myself. Before I go into the steps I took, I will mention that Spotify USERS were much more helpful than Spotify MODERATORS. Not a good way to approach customer support.

Of all of the tricks and tips mentioned, what did it for me was resetting my wireless router completely. I setup the router and ensured UPnP was enabled. The next time I fired up Spotify on my desktop and phone, no issues.

Hopefully this helps other people solve this frustrating problem. It appears Spotify doesn't view these issues as theirs, and as their users. What is not realized by Spotify is that their rapidly increasing user base may not maintain the same path if it becomes known their customer support is non-existent. A company has to create and provide customer support that is scalable to growth.

Unfortunately I am having the exact same problem and nothing is working to fix it yet.  I just repeatedly get that error about offline playlists no matter what I do, reinstall, you name it.  In fact, it sucks even more because I reinstalled the Iphone app and lost my previously synced tracks (specifically talking about my local files it added) and now it won't sync ANY of them including the ones that spotify has on their servers. I am really starting to believe that this is not something I can fix on my end.

Same issue here and I have to DJ tonight. Lousy. Maybe they can reboot their servers.

That sucks about the DJ-ing. 😞 I am currently able to sync the tracs that Spotify has on their servers again but still no go with any of my local files no matter what I try.

Having the same issues here.

Things i have validated.

1.  Premium account in good standing

2.  Hard Reset of iphone 4s

3.  Logged out of Iphone and logged in with spotify credential (versus facebook linking)

At this point the issue appears to not be on my side.  For the last week I was seeing connection issues with the spotify servers.  Please rectify ASAP or refund monies for loss of service.

A suggestion from a business perspective - Forums are no way to support such a popular product.  With the number of users that Spotify has, a dedicated support line or help desk should be used, even if it is done from a virtual perspective.

In response to the business question. They do have a twitter handle @spotifycares https://twitter.com/spotifycares. They were responsive, helpful and they were able to get their top folks on it due to my pressing need. Big praise for spotify!

Kalansky - thanks for your response, but this does not solve my issue.

In additon when I clicked your link for twitter it returned "page not found"

Sorry period got put in try this

Still no good on the local files this morning.  I attempted to tweet spotifycares earlier.  I'll let you guys know if they reply and we manage to fix this.

and now it mysteriously works.....certainly would be nice to know what was done to fix this?  If nothing then what is the problem on Spotify's side?

Hello.

I can actually replicate this issue on my device, so it's strange how it's reappeared for you! We've had some other reports of normal playlists not being able to sync, so it's possible that it is related. Did you do anything before it started to work at all?

Syncing local files suddenly started to work for me last night, too. (and my device is suddenly appearing under devices again)

Appears to be router/firewall related, but I'm no expert. Puts Spotify in a tough spot because it's not easy to troubleshoot and resolve for their average user. Lack of support call center doesn't help, leaves users feeling neglected.

I'm good.

Nothing changed on my side.  Nothing with regards to a network change/firewall/switch as my "honey pot" VM armed with wireshark showed me.

My guess is that spotify corrected something on their side.

I've been having the same issue for about two weeks now (phone not showing up under "Devices").

Your advice to reset the router fixed it, thanks.

Hi, I've been having a similar issue and any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have an issue syncing my iPhone's Spotify playlist to my laptop's Spotify playlist. All Spotify-based songs are syncing fine, but not the local songs. Both devices are on the same WiFi network (I even connected them via a USB cord, for good measure). The names of the local songs do appear on the iPhone - in shaded out grey, so they are not playable. The songs are completely legal, purchased on iTunes or recorded and given to me by a family member (who is an artist, so he owns all copyrights). I've even made sure that I have enough memory available on the iPhone. (There are fewer than 300 songs in my Spotify playlists, so that should not be an issue, either).

The Spotify application on my laptop doesn't even recognize the iPhone on its Devices tab. This is really frustrating! I've tried tweeting Spotify's tech support - so we'll see how that goes.

Hey! Welcome to the community 🙂

Do you have any security software running on your computer, such as Windows Firewall?

Try disabling any software like that which might be preventing the connection temporarily.

Same issue.  Had to delete/re-add my Spotify iPhone app because they unbelieviably still haven't fixed the cache issue (turn off "Available Offline" in a playlist, no space is freed up, when you turn "Available Offline" back on, all previousy synced songs are immediately available.  Because they were never deleted in the first place, like they should have been), and when I reinstalled, it wouldn't sync my local, non-Spotify tracks.  No issues before the reinstall.  Followed all instructions for removing/re-installing Spotify on my laptop.  Nothing worked.

What's the deal?
