Local files won't play on mobile even though they're downloaded

Local files won't play on mobile even though they're downloaded

I downloaded songs and set up my Spotify local files on my PC. I put them in my playlist and successfully downloaded them on my iPhone 11. The songs are not greyed out, however when I click on them to play, they do not play. The blurb that tells you the song name and artist on the bottom of the screen pops up then disappears instantly. I have tried reinstalling the app, signing in and out on both PC and iPhone, yet the songs do not play. I also removed them from the playlist and tried re adding them, which was unsuccessful. I have played local files on my older iPhone 6s in the past doing the same process. The files are .mp3 files which are supported by Spotify. Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you.

Hey @JimmyFV11,

Thanks for posting in the Community!

We understand that you have issues with synchronizing you local files across your devices. Useful info on how the Local files feature work is here to be found.
Can you also confirm the following few things, so we can give you a better advice:

  • You need to be logged in to the same account on both your desktop and mobile
  • Your devices need to be connected to the same WiFi network
  • The app must be up-to-date on both devices
  • Your device OS is up-to-date
  • The Spotify app should have access to your local network. Check in your iPhone/iPad settings under Spotify.

Hope you find this useful. We'll be keeping an eye out for your reply, thanks!

Hey - i got it.
1) I had the computer and phone spotify open.
2) on the phone spotify: settings > Local Files > enable "show audio files from this device"

Logically it doesnt make sense, but it worked.  Either this did it, or i just waited long enough with both spoitifies open
