Hello and welcome to the community!

Yes, it's normal, I recommedn to choose the lower quality. You also can upgrade to Premium in order to sync songs and listen in offline mode.

Hey there, im already using Premium, how do i choose lower quality?

Tap this button: Menu.jpg

Go to Preferences, choose Music Quality and choose the lower quality.

Hmm the only music quality choices i have are Normal (recommended), High, and Extreme

The bitrate for the qualities is as follows:

Normal: 92 kilobits/second

High: 160 kilobits/second

Extreme: 320 kilobits/second

This means the amount of data for one hour of playtime is:

Normal: 43.2 megabytes

High: 72 megabytes

Extreme: 144 megabytes

It is greatly reduced however by utilizing the Spotify cache. This means if you listen to a song you listened to recently, less data is used than would normally be needed. But if you are listening to many different songs the cache wont make as much of a difference.

For downloading the songs to listen to them without using any mobile data to stream after the download (premium only), check out the FAQ here and select iPhone:
