No control over app while plugged into jvc stereo via USB

When I try to use spotify through USB in my car, music plays but I cant use the app itself. The logo stays on the screen (docked mode?) and I can access it as soon as I unplug the USB. I have an iphone 7 just updated to iOS 11.4.1. The radio is a new jvc with bluetooth and USB. I specifically got it to use USB charging and playing music at the same time. The first time I used it I had no issues. Please help, this is frustrating

solved. had to remove spotify as a source option in the radio settings, the radio was hijacking the spotify app
