No sound via Spotify on headphones (sound works with other apps - just not Spotify)

No sound via Spotify on headphones (sound works with other apps - just not Spotify)

Out of the blue, sound is no longer coming through the headphones when using Spotify. This is only happening on one of my iPhones (I switch back-and-forth between two). Spotify music does come out of the iPhone speaker, but the moment you plug in headphones you've got nothing. When I use other apps on the same iPhone, sound works fine. When I use the same headphones with Spotify on my other iPhone, sound works fine.

 

The phone is an iPhone 5s 32 GB, model ME308LL, on the AT&T network.  I am running iOS version 9.3.4 and the phone is not jailbroken. I am using the Apple earbuds that came with the phone.

 

I have taken numerous troubleshooting steps to no avail:

 

  • I made sure that the headphones are working by using them to listen to Spotify on my second iPhone.
  • I plugged the headphones back into the iPhone with the problem and ensured that I could hear sound via other apps, confirming that the issue is specific to Spotify AND that the headphone jack is working
  • I force stopped the Spotify app then relaunched it
  • I deleted the Spotify app, and then reinstalled from the App Store
  • I rebooted the iPhone
  • I rebooted the iPhone while it was plugged into the power source
  • I verified that the volume is on (in fact, it's turned all the way up)
  • I also verified that Spotify is set to play on this iPhone as opposed to other devices (this was fur their confirmed by the fact that Spotify plays just fine through the iPhone speakers)
  • I tested the same headphones on my second iPhone (which has an identical configuration to the one with the problem) and had no problem listing to music on Spotify via headphones.

 

This does not make any sense as everything was working fine yesterday and I have made no changes to my iPhone, iOS, or the Spotify app. I have a premium account and listen to Spotify almost daily. I am disappointed that the extent of support for premium customers (who pay you monthly!) is posting a question in your community forums and hoping that someone will answer you – especially since I've come across poats with the same problem bur no resolution was found or posted by Spotify staff.

 

Your prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.

Hi there, and welcome to the community!

 

That is a very odd issue indeed.

 

A couple more suggestions:

 

1) Respring your phone by holding the home and power button for 15 seconds

2) After doing this, firs plug your headphones in, then launch Spotify, then start playing music

 

Let me know how it goes, it seems you've done most things already which renders it a somewhat perplexing issue however I'm sure a solution lies somewhere.

Thanks so much for the quick response. I had already tried respringing it before (That's what I had meant by "rebooting" it). But I had not previously tried doing both of the steps that you listed in that exact order.

 

Unfortunately, it did not work at all to resolve the problem. It's incredibly bizarre and frustrating!
