Playlist on iPod classic won't synchronize

Playlist on iPod classic won't synchronize

Hi

I am new to Spotify. I have a premium account.

When I connect the iPod classic to Spotify the new playlist won't synchronize with the iPod. Before I turned the playlist to offline mode as told in the user manual.

On the Spotify desktop I can choose which playlist I want to be synchronized but there are Songs which I can buy.

As far as I understood I don't have to buy them just to listen to them in my car iPod classic as I have the Premium account.

Did I missundertood something oder is there a problem with iPod classic? Is it only working with iPod touch or iPhone?

All I want to do is just to listen to the Spotify Playlist while driving. I think I am allowed to do so for 30 days, afterwards I have to resync a new Playlist?

Thank you for your help

David

Hi dhkatzen-  The iPod Classic can only sync Local Files with Spotify (ie. tracks you have stored on your computer or purchased from Spotify via the Download service).

It isn't possible to sync streaming content/ offline playlists to any device that doesn't support a Spotify app. The Nano, Classic, and Shuffle don't (and cannot) support a Spotify app.

You can find more details on the iPod integration here: http://www.spotify.com/help/faq/ipod-integration

This would have been great to know before I purchased a 40GB classic to use with my in-car iPod interface.   Your site does nothing to warn people of this and it took hours of searching to find this forum post.

Maybe something like: 'Syncing with iPod, but only local files with a classic iPod' and other warning like "app not compatible with in-car ipod controllers"

Fantastic, really. Thanks spofity. Back to iTunes.

Come on, this isn't the fault of Spotify!  You only have to have a look on the website under Spotify Mobile to see that the ipod Classic isn't capable of running the Spotify app which is needed to be able to access the entire spotify library. You can't download any apps onto the Classic; a cursory search of the internet would have told you that before you decided to purchase the device. Look at this under the ipod category in the help forums "Important Information for new users":

"This system can only work when there is a Spotify app to manage the music, keeping it "in the system". The iPod doesn't support any apps. So, if it were possible to sync streaming music to an iPod, this would mean that the people who created the music wouldn't get any further income when it is enjoyed"

I'm not sure why it took you 2 hours to find this post as there are lots of similar posts from ipod classic users on this site who have asked exactly the same questions as you and have been informed extremely politely by moderators that the ipod classic is only capable of syncing local files to the device. You can't blame Spotify for your mistakes! There are things that Spotify gets wrong, but this isn't one of them.

I have an iPod nano 2006 version (old i know). I am having the same problem, when I try to sync my playlists it says it can only sync local files? what can I do about this anything?

Hey! Welcome to the community 😉

Unfortunately, this is correct. You can not sync playlists from the Spotify online catalogue to an iPod nano. The reason for this is spotify relies on a closed system, in order to secure tracks against piracy and to log track plays so artists and labels can be paid fairly. Since the iPod nano/classic/shuffle can't support the Spotify application, you can only use the Spotify client to sync files that you actually own to the iPod.

You can read more in the iPod Integration FAQ.

Why would you not suppot the iPod Shuffle for syncing playlists users create on Spotify? The iPod Shuffle is the smallest device and the one that runners, like myself, would actually want to run and listen to music with especially my waterproof Waterfi iPod Shuffle. Please tell me if I am wrong about this syncing playlist issue. If I am right I am going to cancel my membership immediately as Spotify has no use to me then.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to sync Spotify catalogue content to an iPod shuffle, have a read at this post which explains why.

I have a Shuffle and for the past four or five months (since I have become a premium member) my shuffle has been syced up with my playlist on Spotify.  Last week out of the blue my shuffle (and classic) all the sudden stop syncing up.  So I know this CAN be done, God as my witness.

Only tracks you own and have on your desktop (local files) can be synched to those devices. To synch spotify content to a mobile device, it must be running the spotify application. This is the only way to make sure you are have a current premium subscription. Apart from anything else, spotify content is encrypted and can't even be played without the appropriate application.

It is in fact possible to sync a list (I was synced my starred list) to a shuffle or classic, I have been doing if for the past five months.  Now out of no where it is only syncing local files and I am super pissed abou this.  I know it can be done so what the hell is going on?

It's technically not possible to get tracks from our catalogue onto any device that can't download the Spotify application from the App Store/Google Play/etc. You're free to sync local files onto Shuffles, Classics, Nanos, etc. but catalogue tracks have never been able to be synced to any iPods other than Touches.

To judge my musical taste, check out my last.fm.

It is 100% Spotify's fault. I also wasted my time and money buying an ipod classic solely to use with Spotify. You simply can't fit nearly enough music onto an ipod touch. Not to mention touch screens are the devil. Just lost another customer

You can fit a good proportion (70%+) of the maximum of 3,333 tracks on a 32GB iPod Touch, and obviously all 3,333 easily on a 64GB iPod Touch. If it was only for Spotify usage you don't need it to be any bigger 😉

Your love for music must not be quite as much compared to the rest of us. Maybe artists should make a cheaper and more convenient way to have access to all of their music if they don't want people stealing it! And with no restrictions!!! There's a good idea.. Lets pay more money for 100GB less that has features that aren't needed. Spotify is for music lovers right? Then make something compatible for TRUE music lovers! I travel a lot and I don't want to go find wifi everywhere to update my music so i can listen to something new

I'd recommend one of these which would seem to fit your requirements.

I believe all vehicles have built in radio.. All without the freedom of creating your own playlists.

ok, but I have set all of the songs on my starred playlist to "offline mode." I thought that meant the were downloaded onto my computer. Does this mean that even if songs are in "offline mode" they aren't in your local files and cannot be synced with an ipod classic?

You can only synch files you own to the ipod classic, not spotify content.

So what is this "own"? I've been a Spotify free user for a year or so and decided that I wanted to play the songs on my iPod Classic. I upgraded to Spotify Premium because it apparently promised that it works with all mobile devices. When I sync Spotify to the iPod it pretends to do so but nothing shows up on the iPod. I thought that the whole point of Spotify was to NOT "own" the music -- that's why there is either ads (free) or a monthly payment (premium).

So I can't play Spotify music on my iPod Classic?
