Playlists won't download completely to iPad or iPhone, many errors...

I'm new to spotify, I received a premium subscription as a Christmas gift and have since been having nothing but trouble with it. The only thing I'm really having issues with is downloading playlists to listen to offline; sometimes it works, most of the time either nothing happens or I get halfway through a playlist and it stops downloading altogether. I'm not even getting a progress meter on the left side (iPad), and I have erased and redownloaded the app at least five times over by now. This is ridiculous. I thought it was working on my iPhone, but as I'm writing the download progress has ceased completely.
