Podcasts not remembering position

Solved!

Podcasts not remembering position

When playing a long podcast through the app (Hardcore History - check it out!), it sometimes remembers where I left off and sometimes doesn't. I can't see a pattern. Sometimes it remembers after I play other music in Spotify, and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes just opening the app after listening to the podcast makes it forget.

Obviously very frustrating for podcasts that are over an hour long. I have to spend a few minutes trying to figure out where I left off.

This is all on a single device. I'm not listening on my phone and then on my pc or anything fancy.

I see some other posts in the Android subforum here with my same problem but didn't see anything recent in iOS.

After a couple frustrating weeks, I haven't had this issue in over a week. So I'm considering it resolved for now.

I am having a similar issue. Except there is a pattern for me: pressing pause on my mobile device for longer than a minute. If I pause a podcast for a longer amount of time, it will restart the podcast. This only started happening yesterday (12 August 2019).

  • Your device: Apple iPhone 8
  • Your device's operating system: 12.3.1
  • Spotify app version: 8.5.17.713
  • Clear steps to reproduce the issue: Open a podcast in Spotify and play it for a little while without pausing. Pause the podcast for longer than a minute. Then press play. It will restart the podcast from the beginning.

On a related note, this issue started at the same time as the issue that I cannot use the pause, play buttons on my locked screen. I have to open the app to press pause.
