Scrobbling stops after connecting to a device

Scrobbling stops after connecting to a device

Hello, I have an iPhone X (iOS 11.2.1 (15C153)) with the latest version of Spotify (8.4.28.1104). I am able to scrobble music to Last.fm when listening to music on the phone, but when opening "Devices Available" and connecting to a device (for example, my Playstation 4), it immediately stops scrobbling the track.

Is there a way for the phone to continue to scrobble music, even though it is only acting as a "remote"?

Hi thedutchbison!

I have the same equipment/versions and unfortunately, no solution that I know of. Typically when I switch any device for Last.Fm I have to restart the app to count the scrobbling. My theory is that each device is logged into separately with Spotify initially  - and even though you are using the Spotify Connect feature  - I don't believe the Last.Fm credentials carry with it unless you are on that device you are wanting to scrobble from.

For example, if you change your Last.Fm password and you don't update it on the mobile version of Spotify AND the desktop version it won't read it from whichever device is holding the older password.
And even though this is not password related, it still seems to function the same.
I use Last+Spotify nearly 24/7 across several devices and I have never been able to solution this on my own. Wish I had a better answer for you!

I wish it would perform like Bluetooth devices. In my car, the phone will sync and I can control everything through my console, and scrobbling works just fine. I just wish connected devices would act in the same manner, since they are technically "relaying home" to the remote (your phone) where the Last.FM creds are stored.

Yes, I agree. That's how it works in my car too so it would seem to make sense when switching devices. Hopefully there might be a fix for it in the future!

Just confirming the same behavior connecting to Amazon Echo speaker (no scrobbling). Scrobbling works just fine over bluetooth to a Jawbone MiniJambox.
