Songs will not play

Songs will not play

Since friday afternoon (8/8/14) songs will not play on my Iphone 5. They won't load, or they'll play for 1 second and then stop. Sometimes skipping around will get it to start but then the songs stop again. Does it on all songs regardless of online/offline status... I have version 7.0.4 (haven't updated to the absolute newest OS...). Spoke to someone else with an Iphone who also has been having the same problem, they have an Iphone 4, not sure of which OS they have.

TL:DR no songs will play on my phone unless I am hooked up to wifi, but I am not having data issues on my phone. Other friends also having same issue the past few days.

Thanks!

Hello!

If you go into preferences and click on "Music Quality" is streaming quality set to normal?

Hope this helped ๐Ÿ™‚

Whats a Spotify Rock Star?

Hi, yes, Stream quality is normal and sync quality is normal.

Ironic, give a try to restart your device.. Spotify is heavily reliant on the connection speed,

If you're still having problems,
I guess your music cache is corrupted, kindly do a clean reinstallation following the steps below:

Click into your Spotify App -> Logout from Spotify (Spotify app Settings -> Logout) -> [If you are on premium and have songs that are on available offline, click here: https://www.spotify.com/sg-en/account/offline-devices/ and remove all devices -> Go to iPhone Settings, General, Usage and Delete the app -> Go to App Store and download the Spotify app again.

Also clear off Safariโ€™s Cache under iPhone/iPad Settings > Safari and Clear all of the caches.

Hi, I cleared the cache in Safari and I think it is working now by just doing that! I will come back later to confirm and mark your post as a solution.

Thank you for your help

Ok, so this is very weird. Apparently spotify will only not play when I connect to my car stereo with my aux cord. Spotify will play completely fine once I unplug it, and it will even play perfectly fine when I hook it up to my stereo at home with a different aux cord, but the moment I plug it into my car the app stops working and it actually kind of freezes my phone. I guess this isn't a spotify issue anymore??

@dianewhat Can you give it a try with another music device? Music output is reliant with the phone..

Hi, so I tried it with a new aux cord and I had the same problem. I also tried it in another friend's car and still had the same problem so I don't think it's my car or the cord. I have discovered though that if I open the youtube app and then go back to spotify then it almost jump starts the spotify app and songs will then play again. So basically I can listen to a song or two and if it stops playing then I open youtube and the song that was frozen on spotify will start playing as the youtube app is open! It's weird because no music would play AT ALL from spotify for several days until I decided to open youtube to see if any sound was working with my aux cord and that's when I discovered that it started spotify playing... But it may play one to three songs without stalling but will stop playing randomly, and if I skip a song then it stalls out.

Could it be a network connectivity issue or a memory issue with my phone? I am only playing songs from playlists that are "available offline."

PS. I have not been able to try hooking a different music device to my car yet.

@dianewhat Running through aux should be fine though.. As it is like running through a 3.5mm headphones jack isn't it.

I was having the same issue-  songs either won't play or will play for a second or two and then stop for a minute.  I could swap over to Pandora or other apps and have absolutely no problem streaming music, but Spotify wouldn't play reliably.  However after taking the advice and removing and reinstalling the app, things seem to have cleared up suddenly and it works like a charm.  Fingers crossed it stays that way but so far so good!
