Spotify Premium Troubleshooting - A Laundry List (iPhone 4 iOS 6.1.3)

Spotify Premium Troubleshooting - A Laundry List (iPhone 4 iOS 6.1.3)

Good morning,

This past week I've had a myriad of problems with Spotify radio on both 3G and Wifi.  The problems are identical no matter if I'm on Verizon's network or WiFi.

-Personal Radio stations disappearing - My radio stations aren't there when I log in.  I have to re-create them every time I log in.

-Limited number of skips - I have no idea why I'm being limited in skips.

-Random stoppage of play - Spotify will pause in the middle of play after being active only a few minutes.

-Only certain stations work.  When I tap a  station I'll receive the message "Sorry this radio station could not be started" more often than not.

-Playing a limited number of songs on a radio station.  For example, I created a Bob Dylan station.  It plays the same five songs and then will not play any more.  Even when I reboot it starts with the same song, going through the same loop, and ends on the same song.  This problem is identical for all radio stations.  My "Cream" radio station will roll through the exact same 12 songs every time I try to play that station.

I've logged in and logged off numerous times.  I've tried restarting my phone.  I've tried reinstalling the app.  Spotify has always been glitchy, but it's been off the charts lately.

Is this an iOS problem or a Spotify problem?  I didn't have any of these issues before I updated the Spotify software.

I have yet to find a solution. I even tried to tweet them but no response. Support sucks!!! I'm about to cancel my "premium" subscription.

Hi, and welcome to the community!

Sorry for the inconvenience.

There have been a multitude of radio issue posts around today; and Peter has escalated the radio issues to the staff in hope theywill be fixed. It's probably just an issue with the servers. Hopefully it will be fixed soon!

Are you on 2/3/4G LTE or Wifi? Best to stream over wifi. Try turning wound quality down; Spotify is probably just not buffering fast enough.

Does the sam issue occur if you sync the songs to offline mode? Often useful to sync songs anyway as it means you don't use data.

While I haven't "lost" radio stations, I've consistently had stations run out of songs and limit my skips.

I think the "limited number of songs" problem is an issue with Spotify's user-generated radio system. It's all based on user data and if that runs out it doesn't have an algorithm like Pandora to follow.

As for limited skips and random stoppage, I think they're bugs in the iOS app. If there's one thing I've found from using Spotify on my iPhone compared to Windows, it's that the app is pretty much beta status. It's really a shame that Spotify isn't investing more resources into creating a solid experience across all apps (and if they are it's not being fixed very quickly), but it's definitely made Spotify a hard sell to people. If I used it on my phone more (I work from home) I'm not sure I'd stay a premium subscriber.

Hi Anthony,

Thanks for the feedback.  I'm using a 3G connection.  I do not have access to a WiFi connection in the office (they have a firewall to block streaming).  Howver, I still encounter these same problems when I do stream from my home WiFi connection.

Thanks for the suggestion about the sound quality.  I'm not really sure how to do that?

As for offline mode, I've had problems using that feature lately when I am connected to WiFi at the house.  It doesn't work at all.  It says "Syncing 1 of 9" and never does anything beyond that.

I'm due for an upgrade on my phone.  I haven't had any problems with iPhone other than Spotify - and those have just started occuring recently.  Perhaps I would have better luck with a Droid product.

Hi,

To change the sound quality it is in the settings tab when you click the lines like in facebook to access the menu. Then music quality and you can edit it from there.

There is a known bug about the syncing problems on iOS at the moment here.  Given the frequency of bugs on iOS vs android I think android is a safer choice at the moment, and this is from an iOS user!

I'm going to escalate this whole topic to the staff, as there seem to be some bugs here (although some have been noticed) that haven't yet been attended to. Hopefully someone at Spotify can take a look and check to see what's known and what needs to be fixed.
