Spotify Won't Play on Airplay with Airport Express

My Question or Issue

I have an Airport Express connected to my wireless network strictly to stream music. Spotify has streamed correctly in the past, but lately, no sound plays. I'm able to select my AE from Devices on the Spotify app, but there's no sound through the speakers via Airplay. iTunes works correctly on both iOS and Mac. This is a recent problem, and I see my Spotify app was recently updated (8.4.89.675), so I'm wondering if it's the latest update that's causing this.

Deleting the app from my iPhone and reinstalling fixed this for me.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. Sorry for the late response as we just came across this thread.

We appreciate that you shared what works for you @wakingsound. However, if @Mr_Suburbs still have this issue, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app. This is often an overlooked step, but it’s more thorough than a regular one and can be helpful in getting rid of any cache that might be causing trouble. 

In case that the issue persists, let us know the Spotify version you're currently running on your device.

I have a brand new Mac book air and I have just installed Spotify fresh on it from the Spotify site. From Spotify, I see all other devices on my network including appletv, my desktop Mac, Alexa devices...everything except my apple express. Unfortunately  Apple Express is what I use most as it is connected to my hifi. /what do I need to do?

In this case, can you let us know more details about what you're mentioning? It'll really help us if you send us as much info as possible about what you're trying. Do you mean you cannot see your device on the Connect menu bar?

On another note and just to confirm, were you able to see if the Apple Airport Express was an available device in the Spotify app before?

Lastly, and just to clarify, do you have an audio output device connected to the Apple Airport Express? Is the hifi you're mentioning the audio output device connected to it?
