Spotify and in car connectivity

Spotify and in car connectivity

It's been posted before many times! Recently and long ago but in going to bring this up again.

Over the years and different iPhones I've had spotify has been an issue when listening in car over Bluetooth or cable. I've had 3 different bmws with 3 different versions of their top media system iPod app works fine! No drops, always responsive AND apple doesn't randomly delete my music while out forcing me to download it all again when I get home... -_- Track name, artist name, album art work I can even change artist or album through the car.

Spotify?

Artist, track, album and art work just stay on the first track played. Spotify randomly and almost always switches off for no reason. Doesn't always respond to skipping track/rewind.

I listen to music only in my car...

I recently read this

Apple May Launch Spotify Competitor, Android iTunes App
http://m.ign.com/articles/2014/03/21/apple-may-launch-spotify-competitor-and-android-itunes-app

SPOTIFY..... Pull your finger out before you lose a legion of customers...

I for one won't hesitate to switch the second it comes out... I don't care who makes it I just want compatibility.

Hey there! Welcome to the community! 🙂

Sorry for the trouble with Spotify and on car stereo. Spotify is aware of the problems with iOS and on car stereo - see here. Like one of the moderators said "We have been collecting a lot of feedback and we've been doing a lot of testing. This issue seems to be bigger than a simple "change this app setting and it'll get resolved for everyone."."

As for the iTunes subscription service rumor, it could take months, possibly even a year until is released. And then of course, they will have their own bugs after launching. By then, I'm sure Spotify will have a lot of bugs fixed. Now Spotify is currently testing some really cool features, which will be worth keeping Premium.

You said "...apple doesn't randomly delete my music while out forcing me to download it all again when I get home...". On Spotify, with offline music you have to reconnect to the internet every 30 days to keep them downloaded. Also there is a 3,333 offline track limit. It could also be a storage issues, such as not having enough storage on your phone.

By "switches off", what do you mean? Does the Spotify app crash on your device? Or it just stops playing music? If it just stops playing music, it could be someone else is using your account (usually you'll get a notfication.) Does this happen only when connected to your car?

If you want, we could look further into the issues you are having with Spotify here on the community - view this post for iOS. If your issues regard your car don't forget to add your car information (Car model, How Spotify is connected to your car, Versions of the media system, etc.)

If your case is resolved, please click the 'Accept as Solution' button and add your kudos!

Update: still doesn't work over Bluetooth.

When skipping tracks the name doesn't change from first track played when connected to car. Also the same with artwork.

Until around 6 months ago the Spotify app was still giving me the issues I've stated above.

To clarify the app would freeze then quit then ask me to sign in. Upon signing in id find none of my offline music available and the app in the process of re downloading everything.

App up to date
Car software up to date
Signed in regularly
No where near the stated offline content limit.

I haven't seen this issue for a while but I'm not sure if this is because I have barely used Spotify over the past 6 months*** as I'm sure you can confirm by looking at my usage history Merik compared with before or if they've successfully patched the crashing issue.

The track name and artwork issue still really bug me. Might seem minor but it robs me of a very useful feature of my car. Oh forgot sometimes I can't skip tracks. Only work around is stop car and reset the Spotify app.

Oh and yes apples subscription is now right round the corner... No doubt they will have their own bugs just like any software but I doubt they'll be around for years at a time.... Still have ZERO of the above issues with my iTunes. In fact I have zero issues at all.

Car info: BMW 6 series gran coupe: Bluetooth. Professional system.

Kindest regards

Invis

**** (now use soundcloud and iTunes. Far more reliable for short journeys and barely uses any data)
