My Question or Issue

Every evening I go into airplane mode and I set a sleep timer for audio books/music. After exactly 1:10 the app crashes. When I start it again and just hit the play button, the track is played but the next one ist skipped. This happens now for like two month every evening in the same order. I found a solution for the skipping problem (just go to the playlist and start the song manually) but the app keeps crashing. Also the crashing started to happen during the day, when Spotify lost internet connection.

There are no updates for the app, and my device has enough memory so I don't think this is the reason.

Does someone had the same problem and found a solution?

Hey there @_lia,

Thank you for reaching out in the Community. We're sorry to hear that you experience this.

In this case we suggest that you perform a clean reinstall of the app to make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

It would also be great if you can try with another internet connection to see if the issue persist.

If that doesn't do the trick - can you let us know which version of the app you have?

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Cheers!

I have the exact same problem.

9 out of 10 times, I start a playlist, switch to airplane mode and set a timer for playback to stop, spotify crashes. Very annoying.

I'm using iPhone12 Pro with iOS 14.3 (also happened with earlier iOS Versions) and Spotify Version 8.5.86.739

Hope you'll get this fix soon.

Thank you

Hey there @zeds_ded,

Thank you for your post in this thread.

Can you confirm if you performed a clean reinstall that was suggested in my reply above?

Another useful trick can be to follow these steps:

1 - Low Power Mode (Settings -> Battery -> Low Power Mode) needs to be off

2 - Background App Refresh (Settings -> General-> Background App Refresh needs to be ON for Spotify

Keep us posted.

Cheers!

Hey Jeremy,

yes, I've done a clean install. This happened after I got my new phone and clean installed everything on this, including Spotify.

1 -  It's usually turned on by automation, when I switch into airplane mode.
I will try to turn this off and see what happens. When that's the fault, then Spotify is aware of it and can fix it in the next update?

2 - Background refreshing is on.

I'll test it right now and let you know. Thank you.

Hey @Jeremy,

I've tried the solutions from above, but unfortunately the app still crashes.

With Low Power Mode turned off and on.
It doesn't make any difference.

What else can I try?

Hi @zeds_ded!

Thanks for trying these steps out.

Just to check, can you let us know if while you're using the Spotify app you've noticed any unusual battery draining? If so, you can add your vote and subscribe to this Ongoing issue.

On another note, we suggest that you make sure the OS of your device is up-to-date.

Additionally, could you confirm that your phone's battery saving options are disabled?

Cheers - keep us posted!

Hi @Eni,

I didn't recognize any unusual battery draining.

Yes, iOS on my device is up-to-date. And also the Spotify App.

I've tried it with battery saving option on and off. Unfortunately it didn't make any difference.

Hey @zeds_ded,

Thanks for testing it out.

Could you let us know if the issue comes up when the app is manually put in offline mode? You can learn how to do this here.

We recommend always enabling this option when switching the app to airplane mode, as it's best optimized for use with no internet connection.

Hope you find this useful. Let us know how you get on.

I've tested this yesterday. But the app still crashes. There's no difference.

Info: When I start the app again after the crash, it just works fine. Very strange.

Hey @zeds_ded,

Thanks for testing it out and getting back to us.

If it's an option for you, could you borrow a friend or family members account and see if the issue comes up there as well? If you could also include a recording of the issue in your reply, that would help us greatly getting to the bottom of this. You can attach it to your post via the Insert Video option, just make sure to hide any private or sensitive info.

Keep us posted, we'll be on the lookout.
