Spotify doesnt delete space used by off line playlists/ Spotify app once deleted

Solved!

Spotify doesnt delete space used by off line playlists/ Spotify app once deleted

Im having this issue when i download an offline playlist to my iphone after i decide to create a new list and delete the previous, Spotify wont release the space used by that playlist

i had a  500 MB playlist avaliable on my phone  (phone free storage was 3.5 GB)

i deleted the previous playlist, storage kept showing 3.5GB of free space, the to prove a point i downloaded another playlist of 1GB my free space came down to 2.5 GB after deleting the playlist my phone was showing 2.5 GB of free storage, i deleted and re intsalled spotify, what i did next was to reset the phone to factory settings.

aftert doing all this my phone finally shows 4 GB free storage

Can you please escalate this to your app support team?

Thanks,

E

Also, see this thread:

Many of us have been asking Spotify to fix this glaring problem for upwards of two years.

Thanks,

That blows when you are deleting and adding new off-line playlists  very often

Sounds to me that because of the way Spotify is built to store your music in encrypted files on your device. The "Clear Cache" buttone simply wouldn't know what to clear. That's why they let iOS handle it.

What happens if you stream music on your device until the device fills up, how does iOS clear information from an app that's in use 😕

Once the phone storage is full then iOS would tell you to delete files by taking you to the manage storage under general options
I just tried with my iPad since It had 1GB of storage I downloaded 2 play lists then delete them after that I couldn't take more pics or use other apps that require to save something .
Spotify should disclaim this bc I bet a lot of ppl think is something, I was thinking to upgrade to a higher storage phone, which is not the case. They should post something on the app description

Peter, your link doesn't work. It only redirects me to the solutions page.

This is completely true, it sounds mad.

1)My device repots 0 free bytes

2)I switch off one of the playlists synching.

3)Still reports 0 free bytes

4)Can now store photos

Is there still no fix for this?

It may sound a bit crazy, but here's the solution.

Go to iTunes, try to watch a movie (important: the movie must my larger than your free space on iPhone), then the phone will tell you, that you don't have enough free space, simply tap settings. Next automatic cache cleaner will start wiping out the garbage, including one from Spotify (you can see wiping process on icons from the home screen).

whauh, this is bad....

the first link to the 'SOLVED' button is still broken

the rest of the links point to a new feature request page... really?

I am an minor user of Spotify and I am not able to delete the 2 Gb that I downloaded the first month (newby as I was at that time).

The only option I see is to delete the whole app, reinstall and re-login ... REALLY?

@martijnemons what do you mean when you say downloaded. Do you have offline content synced? Or are you referring specifically to the cached data?

What iPhone and iOS are you running? What does it say in the Usage screen?

Cached data

Cached data

Actually you have to restore your phone in order to free up your iPhone
from that used space that was my experience.
I got a phone with more storage bc I got tired of having to restore my
phone anytime I wanted to download new playlists

Restore my phone ???

Whauh, talking about a 'killer app'... really bad joke sorry.

Iphone 5s, it's updated to the latest iOS update per a couple of weeks ago.

10.11 (14B100)

iOS manages the storage on the phone. The Spotify cached data is deleted if another app is wanting to use this storage. That's just how it works.

Are you saying that the 2GB is preventing you from doing anything? Or is it just not that appealing to look at?

Really...?
