My Question or Issue

Hello everyone!

This morning I woke up to a hard rock song that Spotify decided to play on its own.

I had never listened to that song/band before and I've verified that this song does not exists in my recommendation lists.

If this is a bug, I can accept it, no problem.

But, maybe it is a secret promotion campaign by Spotify? Randomly playing songs that I never asked so that maybe I will like those artists and play more?

Or, this is not a bug or secret promotion, and I am a sleep walker.. So, I tapped to play the song and I lied to my bed and I woke up from the song that I just played.

I am sure nobody has my password + if even somebody has, they will not be able to play the song from my iPhone, because it was locked all night long.

Please help me explain this situation.

If there is any support people reading this message, please check my history. That was the first song today, around 10 AM Sweden timezone.

Hey @yozank,

Thanks for getting back to me!

Since music playing without your control is a potential indication of someone gaining access to you're account, in these cases, I feel it is important first to ensure the account is secure before proceeding with other troubleshooting options, out of an abundance of caution. Thank you for taking the time to change your account password; please also ensure that you check out steps 2 & 3 outlined in this support article to sign out everywhere and review 3rd party connections.

If you're still experiencing the issue after securing your account, the issue could be related to your Spotify app. In this case, I would suggest performing a quick clean reinstallation of the app by following these steps. This usually helps with many ongoing issues like this.

Please keep me posted, and let me know if the issue reoccurs. Have a great day 🙂

Hey @yozank,

Thanks for reaching out. Welcome to the community!

I can assure you that this is not a promotional campaign by Spotify. However, given that your music started playing without your control, it's possible that someone might have gained access to your account. To be on the safe side, I'd encourage you to secure your account by following the steps outlined in this support article.

If you happen to experience this issue again, please let me know, and I'd be happy to help you get to the bottom of this issue. I'll be here in case you need any further help 🙂

Noah, I'll change my password but I doubt somebody had access to my account. And, as I said since my phone was locked all night, there is no way somebody to play that song through my iPhone. For that, I need to start a session through iOS app, so that other devices can pick iPhone to play the song.
Anyway, thank you for kind reply.

I have the same problem. No my account has not been hacked, I have taken all the necessary actions to secure it. Clean reinstall and other suggested solutions do not work. In one of my unanswered reports about this problem I also thought it sounds like a promotion by Spotify to force more free users to pay for premium by taking away control of their music and making them listen to nonstop random music they don’t like. If it is a bug then it should’ve been fixed by now because it’s a simple fix: if I have Autoplay turned off, I shouldn’t be hearing music not in my playlists. If this is a scheme to get more people to upgrade to premium, it’s not working; it just deters me from wanting to use Spotify at all, much less pay for a music app that won’t let me listen to my music. If it’s a bug, then please actually look into the problem (none of the suggested solutions work, and my account has already been secured and is definitely not hacked) and fix it.
