Spotify instantly pauses when I am connected to multiple devices on bluetooth headphones

Whenever I have my bluetooth headphones (B&W P7) connected to 2 sources (iPhone and Mac or Android and Mac), spotify pauses instantly whenever I try to play. Everything else on either device works perfectly in terms of audio input and ouput. I can make Spotify work again by disconnecting from one of the sources.

Is there a fix to this issue?

Honestly am considering switching to another service since the convinience of being connected to two devices is something that I bought bluetooth headphones for.
