Spotify keeps freezing while listening to music

Spotify keeps freezing while listening to music

My Question or Issue

While listening to music, the app keeps randomly pausing out of nowhere and when I try clicking play again using the play button in the control center, media buttons, head unit for car play, Bluetooth, etc. nothing works. Then I go directly on the app and realize it did some weird freezing thing again where the song info is just a bunch of dashes and no song works at all until to restart the app.

Has been happening for about a month now. Sometimes when in the car using Bluetooth and/or CarPlay, I’m in the middle of one song and then I leave and come back, it shows that I’m still halfway through the same song which is good, but as soon as you click play, it randomly just skips the song and freezes everything and shows dashes again.
Many times while listening to music on a Bluetooth speaker, a song would randomly get very jittery and laggy, then pauses and freezes out too.

It’s very annoying to have to constantly restart the app 3-4 times throughout the day just so I can play music.

The Spotify support messaging system with advisors did not help at all. They kept telling me the same thing, delete the app and restart your device, which I’ve done multiple time before and after they said it. One even had me log out of all devices and reset my password. Of course none of it solved the problem.

Hey @thatsjimmii,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community.

This type of issue, when the app is not responding, is commonly related to some damaged cache stored on the device. We understand you’ve already tried some troubleshooting steps including reinstalling, but to be sure that we're on the same page - did you use the steps for a clean reinstall mentioned in this article?

If so, and the issue persists, could you confirm if this is also happening when you're playing directly from your phone speakers, or it's just when the playback is being casted through Connect to another device (car, speaker, headphones)?

Lastly, include in your next response the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

We'll be on the lookout.

Spotify app version 8.9.30.414

Yes I have already tried that clean install guide, one of the Spotify support scares mentioned it to we while we were talking.

It happens while listening just through the device speakers too. Of course, Bluetooth, CarPlay, and other connectivity has the same problem. It’s happening with both my ios devices which is another weird thing.

Hey @thatsjimmii,

Thanks for the info 🙂

Is the same behaviour observed when you switch to a different network?
And, to see if this is iOS- or account-related, try logging in on your devices with someone else's account or a new free test account.
In case the issue persists with a different network and with a different account, let us know the details of your second device as well:

device: e.g. iPhone 13 mini
OS version: e.g. 17.3.1.
app version:  e.g. 8.9.30.

Many thanks! We'll be on the lookout for your reply.
