My Question or Issue

Hello,

So the Spotify app on my phone seems to have an issue that has popped up around a week or two ago. It usually occurs in offline mode. I would be listening to any song, and around a minute or so in, the music will stop. Each time I check the app, it reboots as if I've never had the app open before. The song would be left off around the 4 second mark, and the queue would be all messed up, for it has repeated and removed songs by itself. This occurs frequently, but there doesn't seem to be a pattern; it could happen at anytime (in one instance, it has happened twice in a row). I have already tried a clean reinstallation, but to no avail. I just need another method as to how to stop this problem from persisting. Thank you for your time.

Hi there @dimension_seven,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

Can you let us know if this is happening only in Offline mode or also sometimes while connected to a network?

Also can you confirm to us that you've done a clean reinstall, following the exact steps from this Spotify Guide?

We'll be on the lookout for your answers 🙂

I am having this issue as well. I am on an iPhone XS iOS version 14.2 with Spotify version 8.5.86.739. It happens in online and offline mode. I have done a soft reset as well as restarted my device. It makes the app basically unusable. It seems to particularly happen with podcasts. It also resets the time on the podcast every time is crashes.

I’ve also experienced these issues almost exactly, I have an iPhone 6s, IOS 14.2. App randomly crashes mid song and is left 4 seconds into the song. I don’t use offline often but the app crashes online and on wifi. Sometimes multiple times right after, or a few songs after. I’ve restarted my phone and the app as well as deleted the app and reinstalling, but issue still persists.

Hi there folks,

Thanks for reaching out about this.

@IRLbacongirl, can you tell us if it happens on songs as well or only on podcasts for you? And is it specific podcasts or every podcast?

@LenLen17, deleting and reinstalling the app is a bit different than a clean reinstall. Can you try that and see if it makes a difference?

We'll be on the lookout for your replies. Thanks.

Hi, I'm having the same issue, I all ready did the clean reinstall and the problem persist on songs, most of the time disconnected

Hi there @Polanch1,

Thanks for reaching out about this.

Can you try deleting and redownloading the songs you have saved for offline listening and let us know if the app still crashes after that?

Also try disabling any performance/battery optimization for Spotify from your phone's settings, as this may sometimes hinder the performance of the app.

Cheers.

I’ve got the same problem. Did a clean reinstall and it was fine for the first couple of days, but now it’s crashing again.
I’m assuming offline mode is a premium thing, in which case it happens regardless of wether or not it’s on.
I have an iPhone X, iOS 14.2, Spotify version 8.5.86

Hey there @SaraHope,

Thanks for reaching out about this and welcome to the Community!

You mentioned that you've already run a clean reinstall, just to check did you follow these specific steps?

Also - could you let us know if while you're using the Spotify app you've noticed any unusual battery draining? If so, you can add your vote and subscribe to this Ongoing issue.

On another note, we suggest that you make sure the OS of your device is up-to-date. It's also well worth trying it with a different connection to check if it makes the difference.

Additionally, could you confirm that your phone's battery saving options are disabled?

Cheers -  we'll keep an eye out for your reply 🙂

It also occurs online.

Hi there @dimension_seven,

Thanks for getting back in touch.

Can you check that there aren't any battery/performance optimization options enabled for Spotify within your phone's settings?

Also, make sure that your device's software is up to date.

If the issue persists, could you try from a friend's or relative's account and let us know if the same happens?

If you're also experiencing some unusual battery drain along with the app crashing, we recommend checking and subscribing to the Ongoing Issue @Eni mentioned above.

Keep us in the loop.

Hi Alex. So I tried doing a clean reinstall of the app on my phone which seemed to solve the problem. But now, a month later, the problem has reoccured, which means I'll have to do a clean reinstall and redownload everything *again*. There has to be a better solution than resintalling every time this reoccurs. This specifically happens when listening to Last Podcast on the Left, but I don't listen to any other podcasts on Spotify, so I don't know if it is podcast-specific.

Thanks,

Isabelle

Hey @IRLbacongirl,

Thanks for getting back to us 🙂

We'd suggest you try with another account on the same device. That way we can check if it's an account-related issue. Are there any changes?

It's also a good idea to try playing other podcasts to see if the issue occurs with them as well.

Keep us posted! If you have questions, you know where to find us.
