Spotify stops and will only play if I use earphones

Recently my spotify has stopped playing once I exit the app and I can't browse other apps while I'm listening to Spitify. When I enter the app, the music starts playing again, but only if I have earphones/ headphones in. Otherwise it's just silent, but the song is still playing. How do I fix this?
