Spotify won't play on one specific speaker

Spotify won't play on one specific speaker

Hi, spotify plays perfectly everywhere (boyfriends jbl charge 3, Bluetooth earphones, car,...) except through my jbl charge 4. The battery of both devices are completely full and I can't find anything wrong

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community and welcome!

What happens when the speaker is connected and you try to play something on Spotify? Is there no sound at all from the speaker or your phone? And does it work fine when audio is streamed from other apps?

In the meantime, there are some steps you can try. Reset the Speaker and reinstall Spotify to check if that makes a difference. Additionally, if you have any other device with Bluetooth on near, turn it off. Let's say you're trying to play music from your phone, and there's a laptop with Bluetooth on, turn the Bluetooth off there and try again. Also, remove the speaker from your device’s list of paired Bluetooth devices and then pair it again.

Lastly, let us know if this happens from one device in particular. If you haven't checked, you can try connecting to the Speaker from a relative's or friend's device and try to play something from Spotify there.

Let us know how that goes.

I hope this works for you, because it did for me. If you haven't already, go to your Apple menu at the top left of the computer screen, then go to: System Settings >> Sound >> Output
Make sure that the speaker you wish to use is selected (understanding that the computer speaker will be the default if others aren't available). I am not sure if there is a way to set hierarchy there, because I haven't tried. But, this worked for me.

Hi,

I read your issue and I have a suggestion for you. To address the issue with Spotify not playing on your JBL Charge 4 speaker, you have to try the following steps:

  1. Reset the Speaker: Reset your JBL Charge 4 and reinstall the Spotify app to check if that resolves the problem.
  2. Check Bluetooth Devices: Ensure that no other nearby devices with Bluetooth are interfering. Turn off Bluetooth on other devices if necessary.
  3. Repair the Speaker: Remove the JBL Charge 4 from your paired Bluetooth devices list and then pair it again.
If the issue persists, consider testing the speaker with a different device to isolate the problem.

I hope my suggestion will be helpful for you. If you have any query then tell me.

Best regard,
Brandy

I have a UE bluetooth speaker and this is what I had to do in order to get it to work.  This however isn't optimal, as now all sound output is routed through to the speaker.  I would like to know from SPOTIFY support if there is a way for the bluetooth speaker to show up under "Connect to a device" section and display under the list of "Select another device" as an option there?

I should have also noted that I am on the latest version of Mac OSX, have reinstalled Spotify a few times and removed and added the UE bluetooth speaker several times.  Apple Music can connect to it and it shows up as a Bluetooth speaker in the options, without having to go into the Sound settings and rerouting the sound output to the device.

Hey @trippn177,

Thanks for posting in the thread!

When it comes to the devices shown in the Connect to a device menu on computers, only Connect enabled devices will appear there. This means that if your speaker only supports Bluetooth, it will only be possible to connect it to the computer through the machine's settings and it will play all the sounds coming from the Mac.

If you would like to see that changed, you can submit it as a suggestion in our Ideas section here. This way, other users who enjoys this suggestion can leave their vote to show their interest and support.

Hope this clears things up!
