My Question or Issue

I drive a lot and exercise. I like to just pick a song and start streaming. No time for hitting thumbs up or down. Nor do I save songs to play later, just pick a song and let the app play related songs when finished which it should do by design. I pick a song, it plays, then stops. It will not continue. Very frustrating especially while driving. The only way I can get this to work is by going into Settings--> Playback and turning off Autoplay on this device and On other devices then turning them back on after I start the initial song. Even though they are on by default, it will not continue unless I proceed as described above.

I have started evaluating other services and have found one that worked as expected. I am trying to get this worked out with Spotify but so far no luck. I have completely uninstalled and cleared the cache and reinstalled. The first time after it worked then went right back to acting as I have described.

V/r,

Troy

Hi there @tsrosier,

Thanks for the post.

You need to make sure that Background app refresh is enabled on your phone. See how when you scroll down here

Since Autoplay worked fine after clearing your app cache and reinstalling the app, most likely the issue is related to a process which clears the Spotify app data on your phone periodically. This could be a battery saver app, so if you are using one like that, disable it for Spotify. It could also happen if your phone doesn't have a lot of free space. In this case iOS will automatically clear app data from most of your apps, which could have a negative effect on the Spotify app.

Hope this helps.

Hi Alex,
The background refresh is enabled. I am not using any battery saver apps
and my storage still has 60 out of 120G left.

Hey @tsrosier,

Thanks for getting back to us!

Could you ask a friend or a family member to log in to their personal account using your device to see if they can replicate this? This will help us understand if it's account related or not.

We'd also recommend giving this a try on a different network, for example try if you'll experience it while connected to Wi-Fi or ask a friend or a family member to start a hotspot for you and use that network to test if the app will behave the same way.

In case the issue persists, please share with us details like OS version, along with the Spotify version you're currently running. If you don't know how to check it - go to this FAQ.

We'll be on the lookout for your response.
