Video/podcast time stamp issue - Rogan

Video/podcast time stamp issue - Rogan

Every time I either close my app or go out and browse other apps and then come back to view/listen, the podcast starts 20 before the actual time stamp. Said differently, it rewinds and never starts where I was listening/watching. I’ve reinstalled the Spotify app (logged out first) several times and updated my operating system (iOS 15.4.1.)

Any idea why this is happening?

Hey,

I'm having the same issue and it's very annoying. Either there's a problem with iOS' latest update or with the app itself.

Same. It’s not a new issue either and not confined to iOS https://community.spotify.com/t5/Android/Podcasts-don-t-remember-position/td-p/4710179

That's not limited to JRE and easily reproducible with any podcast with video feed.

Steps:

  1. Open a podcast with video feed (e.g., JRE, Lex Fridman).
  2. Play it for a few minutes.
  3. Pause.
  4. Open Spotify app.
  5. Hit Play.

Expected results:

  1. Podcast continues from the saved position.

Actual results:

  1. Podcast starts from the beginning.

Environment:

  • iOS 15.4.1.
  • iPhone 12 mini.
  • Airpods pro.
  • Spotify app version 8.7.20.1724

Same here

I've done more testing with video (WAN show) and audio (Stuff that they don't want you to know) podcasts. The issue happens only when there's a video feed. It happens every single time to me. Would be nice to get a fix ASAP.

Hey folks,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Could you share a short screen recording which shows this in action? That way we can get a clear understanding of what's happening on your end. Also, does the same issue occur both with WiFi and Mobile data?

Keep us posted.

Hi! I've upgraded to 8.7.21.1728 and cannot repro the issue. I'm going to play with it for the next couple of days and will report back.

I think upgrade to 8.7.21.1728 resolves the issue. I cannot repro the problem with variety of audio and video podcasts.

It was working but it has started again. Hope they can resolve this soon.

Hey @yasohn,

Thanks for your reply in this thread 🙂

Can you let us know the exact make/model of your device along with the Spotify version you use? Also, is this inconvenience present on another mobile device? It’d be awesome if you could check. You can ask for the mobile device of a relative or a friend to open your account and check.

On another note, do you notice what actions led to it happening? If yes, please share with us a full description about it, with as much detail as possible.

We'll be on the lookout for your replies.

Take care!

I’m using an iPhone 11 and Spotify was updated a few days ago. Unfortunately I don’t have any other devices in the house to check. But my last post suggests that there are many who are having a similar problem.

When I exit the app to open another app, or lock my phone and open Spotify to view, it doesn’t even play. I have to close the Spotify app and press play again.

Cheers

Hey @yasohn,

Thanks for your reply and for including additional info.

We recommend that you disable any battery saving or optimization apps to make sure that Spotify is not being restricted by your iPhone settings.

Lastly, tell us if this happens when using the web player on your browser (phone).

We'll be here standing by.
