My Question or Issue

While I am playing music from the app on my iPhone over the phone’s intrinsic speaker, if the screen locks (goes dark), when I wake it up (Lock Screen shows), the volume drops by half. I’ve noticed it also happens when I minimize Spotify to switch to a browser window.
I disabled Enable Audio Normalization in Settings, but no change. Help! Thanks.

Hi @PeredM!

Interesting. This may have something to do with the Attention Aware features, so try disabling them to see if that does the trick.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, but no. Attention aware is not enabled.

I’ll mention that it occurs only when using the iPhone’s speaker, not when
using Bluetooth to another audio device (speaker, headphones).

Next steps? Driving me nuts.

Hey @PeredM,

Thank you for keeping in contact.

In this case, would you mind checking if turning the Sound check option ON/OFF (in your phone settings) makes any difference?

If not, and if you've tried before, we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps in this article as this process restores the settings to default and ensures you're running the latest version of the app.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks very much. There does not appear to be a Sound Check setting in iOS
17.

I’m noticing that at least some of the time, this volume drop occurs when
battery life is on the lower end; will have to see whether it ever does
when there is good charge.

Hi @PeredM,

Thanks for the reply. Interesting, could you please test if this indeed also happens when on high charge, that will help us narrow down this issue. Also, consider excluding Spotify from all battery optimization settings and apps that you may have, those can cause various issues as well.

Let us know how it goes.

It happens less often when on full charge, but occurs nonetheless. It just started happening repeatedly at 70% charge. I do not see any battery optimization settings in iOS for Spotify but I am happy to make any suggested specific changes.

Hey @PeredM,

Thanks for your reply.

The latest version of iOS is 17.2.1 so can you please update and let us know if the issue persists?

Keep us posted.

Hi there,

I have an iPhone 11 and have the same exact issue - the audio becomes lower when I unlock my phone. This only happens with Spotify and also only happens when I'm playing out of my phone speakers, when I have headphones or a speaker connected it is fine.

Salve, ho lo stesso problema e non so come risolverlo, qualche aiuto?

Hi there @gian_rova,

Thank you for your reply in this thread. We hope you don't mind us replying in English.

For starters, have you tried any troubleshooting steps? If not, we'd recommend following the recommendations in our previous replies. Additionally, make sure your OS is updated to the latest version available.

On another note, let us know if this happens only when playing music directly on your phone's speakers or if it also happens when playing music via Bluetooth and headphones.

Lastly, check if this also happens when the phone's battery is low, like another user described. If so, then make sure you turn off Low Power Mode, restart your device, and check if that makes a difference.

Keep us posted!

Come posso risolverlo?

Hi @gian_rova,

Thanks for your reply.

If this only happens with Spotify, go to Spotify's Settings and check if the Equalizer is on. If that's the case, try disabling it. Let us know if that makes a difference. Additionally, check if you can disable 'Sound Check'. To do so, go to your device's Settings > Tap Music > Turn Sound Check off.

We'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Grazie della risposta!

l equalizzatore era gia disattivato e l impostazione riguardante al suono non è presente sul mio dispositivo

Thanks. Same here, equalizer is off. I do not have Apple Music installed,
so there is no Settings > Music (there is not one by default in iOS).

Thanks for the info folks!

We'll need even some more details so we can hopefully report this to the right team and they can do a further investigation. Please send us the following:

  • Exact Spotify-version you're using
  • Exact iOS-version and iPhone model
  • If this happens with another Spotify-account on the same device
  • If the issue persists with a different Internet connection

We appreciate the cooperation 🙂

Every time I start playing music I can’t turn my phone off or even swipe off the Spotify app without my music getting drastically more quiet even though the volume is full. Only way to fix it is to close the app and restart it. I’ve tried uninstalling and logging in again but no dice. Please help it’s really annoying.🥲
