What is the logic behind Shuffle Play button vs. just the Play button?

What is the logic behind Shuffle Play button vs. just the Play button?

Since I mostly listen to whole albums, I almost never want to shuffle play. However I notice that at the top of a playlist, the big green button is sometimes Shuffle Play, and sometimes just Play. But it's ALWAYS Shuffle Play with albums, which I find really frustrating, because that's the place I least want to use Shuffle.

What is the thinking behind when Shuffle Play is shown, and when Play is shown? Can we at least always show Play for albums, so we can hear them in order as the default (yes, I know tapping the first track does that)? Even better would be to have buttons for BOTH play modes at the top of everything, so we can choose as we see fit. As it is, there's a persistent feeling that Spotify doesn't want me to enjoy actual albums, but just playlists, playlist, playlists, and shuffled playlists (instead of carefully sequenced) at that.

the shuffle button automatically randomizes your songs, play button its just to  play ans stop current song being played.

Oh yeah I know what each button does. My question is about why one shows up sometimes, and at other times it's the other one. It seems random and arbitrary, and especially weird that albums only ever show Shuffle Play, which is the one time I'm least likely to want Shuffle Play.

Yeah!!

you are so right!!!

just thx.

The shuffle play button dominating the mobile app is a dismal UI/UX fail, I hope they fix it soon. A lack of customizability to a user preference devalues an otherwise great platform. My android is super sensitive the stupid shuffle play consistently gets in the way, it accidentally triggered ruining my listening experiences. The arrows are right at the bottom and easy enough to tap, why foist the big-fat button into the middle of the UI? Please Spotify, make it go away, or give me the option to make it go away!

Hey @jodithomas

Thanks for posting here about this.

It's currently not possible to customize the usage of the Shuffle Play button, however we recommend having a look at this Live Idea suggesting the implementation of such an option.

You can support the idea by adding your +VOTE and clicking on Subscribe in the three-dots menu at the top right corner next to the title. That'll make sure you stay up-to-date with any relevant updates about this. It’s also worth knowing that the higher the number of votes an idea gets, the more likely it is for the idea to be implemented.

We always take new ideas and feedback into consideration to improve the app. Here you can read more on how ideas work.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any questions.

Why can't we have BOTH Play & Shuffle buttons? Other music apps already have this.

It would just make it easy to either play in order or shuffle if both buttons were at the top of albums and playlists.

💡New Idea:

Albums & Playlists: Have BOTH Play & Shuffle buttons at the top
