Why can’t I search within a playlist?

On iPhone, non premium. I know it can be done because a friend’s phone (who has premium and a different iOS and model of phone) can search in any playlist while I can search in none. I understand if I can’t but I want to know why, is search only available for a certain iOS or later or only for premium holders? We both have the most recent version of the app

Welcome to the Spotify Community!

It's possible to search in playlists on mobile, but keep in mind that the mobile app for free users doesn't fully support on-demand playback in some regions, meaning most music is available in Shuffle-play mode.

Still, there are up to 15 "special" Spotify playlists (usually found under the Made for you section) which allow you to pick and play any song and also give you the option to sort and filter (i.e. search within the playlist). You can access these options by swiping down at the top of the playlist.
